Another city in Guangdong is under closed management, sellers’ shipments may be affected!

Not only Shenzhen but also Dongguan has been affected by the epidemic. Currently, all residential areas and villages in Dongguan are under closed management, which is undoubtedly a double blow to the logistics and transportation industry. In addition, due to the impact of the epidemic, a large number of flights from Shenzhen and Shanghai have been cancelled, ports have been closed, and storage yards have stopped operating ... It is difficult to guarantee the timeliness of cross-border logistics.

Dongguan implements closed management, logistics and transportation may be affected

In the early morning of March 14, Dongguan issued Notice No. 53, which showed that, except for ensuring the operation of the city and the transportation of materials to Hong Kong, all public buses and subways in the city were temporarily suspended, and all communities and villages in the city were subject to enclosure management.

On March 15, Dongguan City issued the latest notice to further strengthen prevention and control measures. All residential areas, villages (communities) in the city will be closed. Except for participating in epidemic prevention and control, regular nucleic acid testing, garbage disposal, medical treatment and drug purchase, and purchase of daily necessities, all residents and vehicles will not go out unless necessary, and non-residents will not be allowed to enter. The prevention and control measures will be implemented from 12:00 on March 15 to 24:00 on March 21.

The impact of the outbreak in Guangdong on the logistics industry is self-evident. Traffic control in many places has caused difficulties in logistics and transportation. A freight forwarder said that they could not receive goods from Shenzhen in recent days, and many of their peers rented warehouses in Dongguan as temporary receiving points, but the key is that many logistics warehouses are currently unable to ship goods normally, and can only wait until the epidemic control is over before making plans. At present, the timeliness of cargo transportation cannot be guaranteed.

Shipping schedules are also likely to be affected. Buses and subways are suspended. During the traffic control period, cross-border sellers are most worried about whether the goods can be shipped. Some sellers are worried that if logistics or Yantian Port stagnates, a large number of cross-border sellers will be the first to be affected.

On March 14, Yantian International Container Terminal stated that the production and operation of Yantian Port was stable and orderly, and all operations and surrounding trailer business were operating normally. However, many sellers are still worried, believing that the residential areas outside Yantian are currently under closed management, and it is unknown whether more residential areas will be closed in the future, which will inevitably affect port consignment and ship departure.

At the same time, some companies in Dongguan have suspended work and production due to the impact of the epidemic, and the specific impact of the epidemic on the company's operating performance is inevitable.

However, under such strict epidemic control, when many cross-border sellers were worried, a container truck driver tried to take a "crooked path" and forged a nucleic acid test report. It is understood that the truck driver asked others to take nucleic acid samples on his behalf and forged a nucleic acid test report. At present, community staff have reported the incident to the police and the person involved has been handed over to the public security organs for handling.

Although container transportation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong is very busy and a large amount of goods cannot be shipped out of the port in time, the current epidemic situation remains severe. The truck driver's behavior of taking "unorthodox ways" to make money is absolutely unacceptable, and life safety should be put first.

A large number of flights in Shenzhen and Shanghai have been cancelled, and logistics may be delayed

The epidemic is in a period of exponential growth, and many parts of the country have been affected. Important channels related to cross-border sellers' overseas expansion are no exception, especially Shenzhen, Shanghai, Hong Kong and other places.

According to data at 10 am on March 15, Shenzhen Bao'an Airport's outbound flights were largely cancelled, accounting for 90% of the total number of flights that day . In addition, due to Shenzhen's closed policy, its air freight warehousing and pickup services have been suspended until further notice.

At the same time, the situation for outbound flights from Shanghai, Hong Kong and other places is not optimistic. The cancellation rates of outbound flights from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport and Shanghai Pudong Airport are both over 70% . Flights out of Hong Kong are less affected, with only a small number of flights cancelled.

Some flights were canceled due to the epidemic, and some flights were canceled or diverted due to the tense situation between Russia and Ukraine. According to reports from Japanese media, about 300 flights per week between Japan and Europe have been canceled or diverted to avoid Russian airspace.

In order to avoid the shortest route, Russian airspace, Japan-Europe routes can only choose to go through Central Asia or North America. However, these two routes not only increase the flight time by 20% to 30%, but also increase the cost of fuel and labor. Under these two effects, the transportation price of Japan-Europe routes has reached about twice the price before the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The epidemic has seriously affected the timeliness of logistics, which is a big problem for cross-border sellers. A freight forwarder revealed that several yards, including Shekou Salt Port Yard, Xinsanli Yard, Baijian Yard B, Zhaogang Rongchuang, Tonghai Fruit Yard, Yupeng Yard, and Minfeng D, have stopped operating.

In addition, due to the impact of the epidemic in Shandong Province, many ports including Weihai, Shidao and Yantai in Shandong Province have been closed since March 12. However, there are still a large number of stranded goods in the ports, and the loading and shipping of goods have become current problems.

To make matters worse, on March 13, Beijing time , an ultra-large container ship named EVER FORWARD with a capacity of up to 12,118 TEUs, owned by Evergreen Marine, suffered a serious grounding accident in the Chesapeake Bay, the most important waterway in the eastern United States, on the way to Norfolk.

It is reported that the container ship currently serves the Asia -Eastern America route, and seven shipping companies including COSCO, CMA, OOCL, APL, CNC and ANL share the cabin.

The container ship has called at ports such as Xiamen, Shenzhen Yantian Port, Hong Kong and Kaohsiung in Taiwan in China, and passed through the Panama Canal to the four major ports in the eastern United States, including Savannah, Baltimore, Norfolk and New York. The location of the grounding also means that there will be delays in cargo arriving at the Ports of Norfolk and New York.

Fortunately, although the container ship has run aground, it has not caused congestion and has not affected other ships entering and leaving the Port of Baltimore. Evergreen is currently arranging for an inspection of the ship and trying to get the ship out of trouble and allow it to resume normal operation as soon as possible.

As most of the cargo on the ship comes from ports affiliated with China, sellers and freight forwarders should pay attention to whether their cargo is carried out to sea on the ship, and contact the shipping company in time to confirm whether the cargo is damaged and the specific time of the cargo delay, and notify the customers to avoid irreparable losses.
