Amazon's Prime Day 2022 kicked off on July 12, with 24 sites covered this time, the most in history. Among them, the United States is still the largest consumer market for Prime Day.
Social shopping platform Slickdeals conducted a study on U.S. consumers' purchasing intentions for Prime Day 2022 from June 29 to July 5. A total of 1,013 Amazon platform consumers participated in the survey.
Data shows that 74% of consumers believe that the main factor that determines whether they place an order on Prime Day is whether the required products are in sufficient supply.
The other four factors that influence consumers to place orders are: Having a Prime membership (51%) , the impact of inflation ( 50%) , shipping and delivery time ( 42%) , and concerns about a recession ( 32%) .
According to statistics, 48% of consumers have planned or have already started placing orders before the Prime Day promotion .
Among them, the five most popular categories on Prime Day are: clothing , electronic products , necessities such as toilet paper , Amazon platform products and food .
According to Slickdeals data, clothing is in the highest demand in the US market, with 47% of consumers planning to buy clothing on Prime Day . Electronics are second, accounting for 39%. The third place is daily necessities such as toilet paper , accounting for 32%. Affected by inflation and the increase in living costs, more and more people are starting to buy daily necessities online. In addition, products sold exclusively on the Amazon platform account for 30%, and food accounts for 29%.
Compared with Prime Day 2021 , the purchasing behavior of American consumers has changed this year. This year, consumers are more willing to buy more products from national brands and third-party sellers , including small and medium-sized sellers.
According to a survey of 1,137 U.S. adults by RetailMeNot , an online deal and savings platform , the average spending of U.S. consumers on Prime Day 2022 is about $388, a 35% decrease from last year's $594. Among them, consumers plan to spend $233 (about 60%) on Amazon and $155 on other retailers.
Although the per capita spending of American consumers on Prime Day this year has declined, 88% of respondents plan to shop online during Prime Day , and 47% of respondents plan to make the largest purchases during Prime Day .
Amazon's U.S. sales for Prime Day this year are expected to grow 17% , reaching about $7.76 billion, according to financial research firm Insider Intelligence .
