U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently seized three shipments of counterfeit goods in one day, valued at up to $3.65 million.
It is understood that the three batches of counterfeit goods included fake designer earrings, designer handbags and unapproved medicines .
Currently, CBP officials in Louisville are cracking down on counterfeit products because the counterfeit product trade is huge and many unscrupulous merchants make easy money by selling these cheap replicas at high prices , seriously disrupting the market order.
It is understood that the first batch of counterfeit goods seized this time was shipped from Hong Kong , China to Suwanee, Georgia . CBP officers seized a total of 5,052 pairs of counterfeit Chanel earrings , which would have been worth a total of $2.27 million if the shipment had been authentic .
The second batch of fakes was sent from the United Kingdom to Las Vegas, Nevada . CBP officers found 1,000 boxes of unapproved sildenafil during the inspection . If the drugs were genuine, the total value would be more than $300,000.
The third batch of counterfeit goods was sent from Hong Kong, China to Sands Point, New York . This batch of goods contained more than 155 counterfeit Chanel handbags and 1 children's bag. If these bags were authentic, their total value would be as high as 1.07 million US dollars.
The rapid development of e-commerce has enabled consumers to search and easily purchase millions of products online, but this convenient shopping method has also created opportunities for counterfeit goods.
It is understood that American consumers spend more than 100 billion US dollars on infringing goods every year , and 20% of consumers around the world are deeply harmed .
Thomas Mahn, director of the Louisville Port , said that producers and sellers of counterfeit and substandard goods use such products to make profits and engage in criminal activities such as terrorism and drug smuggling, posing a serious threat to the economic development and public safety of the United States. To this end, CBP officers regularly inspect international flights in and out of the country and intercept drugs, weapons, currency, prohibited agricultural products, counterfeit goods and other illegal items at 328 international ports of entry in the United States to prevent criminals from undermining the economic development and public safety of the United States .
The U.S. market has always had very strict supervision over counterfeit goods. For example, on the Amazon platform, once a seller is found selling counterfeit goods, not only will the store be closed and account funds frozen, but the seller will also bear corresponding legal responsibilities .
Therefore, for cross-border sellers, it is necessary to purchase goods through formal channels , pay attention to product compliance, and avoid selling counterfeit goods. Otherwise, if the store is closed due to violations, the loss will outweigh the gain. U.S. Customs Fakes |
