Data shows that in the first quarter of 2022, the number of online shoppers in Brazil reached 24 million, an increase of 1 million compared with the same period last year . In the first quarter, Brazilian e-commerce sales reached 39.6 billion reais, an increase of 12.6% compared with the first quarter of last year. The total number of orders reached 89.7 million, an increase of 14% compared with the same period last year .
From a regional perspective, in the first quarter of 2022, the southeast of Brazil was the region with the highest online revenue and number of orders , with e-commerce sales reaching 22.8 billion reais and the number of orders exceeding 54.7 million, an increase of 9% over the same period last year .
At the same time , the e-commerce market in Brazil's northeast region also developed rapidly, with e-commerce sales reaching 6.95 billion reais , a 20 % increase over the same period last year , and the number of orders reaching 14.3 million , a 29% increase over the same period last year . Overall , e-commerce sales in all regions of Brazil maintained an upward trend in the first quarter .
In the first quarter of 2022, the categories with the highest sales in the Brazilian e-commerce market were mobile phones, home appliances, electronics, fashion and accessories, and computers. Among them, sales of home appliances increased by 25.8%, and sales of fashion and accessories increased by 25.5%. The market demand for these two categories is very considerable.
In terms of order quantity, the categories with the largest number of orders in the first quarter of this year are: fashion and accessories, beauty and perfume, food and beverages, health and home products . Among them, the number of orders in the food and beverage category increased the most , up 73.4%. The second largest category is health products , with an increase of 38.1% in order quantity .
In terms of purchasing methods, credit cards were the most commonly used payment method by Brazilian online consumers in the first quarter of 2022, accounting for 82.6% . It is worth mentioning that the use of boleto has also increased, from 4.3% to 9.7%.
In recent years, Brazil's e-commerce market has shown a rapid growth trend.
