A large number of returns are a concern for many online sellers , because not only do they fail to sell the goods successfully, but they also increase additional logistics costs.

According to a recent study on online returns released by MySize , 71% of consumers believe that if online sellers can provide size charts or sizing tools for products (especially clothing) , returns can be greatly reduced. At the same time , 71 % of consumers said that they gave up purchasing because the seller did not provide size charts and sizing tools .

29 % of respondents said they “ sometimes return products , while more than 14% of Italian consumers , 10% of British consumers , nearly 10% of German consumers and 8% of French consumers return products often or very often .

According to the research, 50 % of the consumers interviewed admitted that size issues were the reason why they returned online clothing, shoes, etc. Another reason for returns is the consumer's trial behavior . 33% of the consumers interviewed admitted that they might buy multiple sizes, colors , styles , and brands of the same type of product to compare, "select the best", and finally return other non-optimal products .

This practice will undoubtedly cause sellers to suffer huge losses , but it cannot be effectively stopped. Consumers believe that this can ensure that they get the most cost-effective products , and at the same time they do not have to worry about incurring losses due to size issues .

To reduce this loss, some brands have introduced the practice of " providing store credit only for returned items " . ASOS requires non-UK customers to pay for return shipping when returning goods , which is a measure often taken by online sellers .

However, 60% of consumers said that they would not buy from a store if free shipping returns were not guaranteed . Compared with low prices, consumers said they would rather buy products with return shipping guarantees and relatively higher prices that do not exceed return shipping costs. 38% of British consumers , 36% of French consumers and 34% of Italian consumers said that they would give up their favorite products due to return issues. Women (40%) are more likely to return products because of concerns about not being able to obtain the correct product size than men (33%) .

On the other hand, more than 46% of respondents said that they would be more willing to buy clothes and shoes online if products in categories such as clothing and shoes could provide real size comparison charts or other sizing tools .

Providing specific reference values for products will help consumers buy suitable products in terms of style, size, function, etc. At the same time, it can also reduce the return rate of products for sellers, thereby increasing store sales without having to bear additional shipping costs.
