Amazon's Clay distribution center will begin operations on April 18

On March 22, Amazon issued a statement saying that the Clay Distribution Center, which Amazon invested $350 million to build , will officially begin operations on April 18. The distribution center is located in Liverpool, the former site of the Liverpool Golf and Country Club, with a total area of approximately 3.8 million square feet (approximately 3.53 million square meters). It is one of the largest logistics warehouses in the world and was originally planned to be completed and put into operation in the fall of 2021, but the actual operation time has been postponed to April 2022.

It is reported that Amazon has postponed the operation several times before, the first time was postponed to February 2022, and then postponed to March. The latest confirmed operation time is April 18. In this regard, Amazon said that the repeated postponement of the operation time is due to many force majeure difficulties. Due to the supply chain disruption caused by the pandemic, the parts needed in the construction process are in short supply worldwide , resulting in the completion time of the distribution center not being within expectations .

An Amazon spokesperson said, "The Clay distribution center is the first large-scale distribution center in upstate New York . Between 400,000 and 700,000 products will pass through the center every day , so the distribution center's working model is also innovative, that is, Amazon employees will work with robots to pick, pack and deliver smaller items for customers , such as books, electronic products, small household items and toys . It is no longer a single manpower model. The model of manpower and robots working together will greatly increase the distribution volume of the distribution center. "

On the same day, Amazon announced that it would build a new logistics distribution center in Loveland, Colorado, with an estimated area of 600,000 square feet (about 56,000 square meters), but the construction and operation time of the project have not yet been announced. Previously, Amazon has officially started operating logistics distribution centers in several other cities in Colorado (Thornton, Aurora, Colorado Springs).

Since the pandemic swept the world in 2020 , Amazon 's business growth has hit new highs, and the pandemic lockdown has caused online purchases to continue to soar. In order to quickly adapt to the rapid development of e-commerce, Amazon has established new logistics distribution centers in Texas, New York, Detroit and other places .

The official operation of the new distribution center means more efficient delivery time for buyers who are keen on online shopping. The shortened delivery time will also increase the "loyalty" of both sellers and buyers to the platform .
