There is false advertising, hundreds of sellers' listings have been deleted

During the epidemic, daily protective products such as masks have been selling like hot cakes, and sellers on major e-commerce platforms have rushed to take advantage of the popularity to make a small profit, but there are also strict requirements for the review of related products. Recently, a seller’s listing was deleted due to false advertising .

According to foreign media reports, in the two years from February 2020 to January 2022, the Singapore Health Sciences Authority deleted about 740 drug listings and issued severe warnings to more than 150 sellers. These products claim to prevent or treat the new coronavirus and are sold on e-commerce platforms and social media applications.

Through monitoring websites and social media platforms, as well as online chats, the ministry has uncovered false claims about certain drugs such as ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine in treating COVID-19 , saying: " The evidence to date shows that these drugs are not effective in treating COVID-19 and in fact pose serious health risks to patients. "

Sellers who falsely claim that medicines can prevent or treat COVID-19 may face prosecution in addition to having their listings deleted . If convicted, they could face up to 12 months in prison or a fine of S$20,000 under the Health Products Act .

In addition to Singapore's review of COVID-19 drugs, Amazon is also cracking down on this type of false advertising and does not allow third-party sellers to include keywords such as treatment and cure in product descriptions. Non-compliant listings will be removed from the shelves.

Some time ago, Amazon also announced that it would severely crack down on price gouging of masks and other epidemic prevention products, and sellers faced the risk of product removal. In 2020, Amazon conducted a large-scale and strict inspection of masks, and a large number of sellers' products were removed from the shelves, and they could not even appeal. Relevant epidemic prevention products must also meet local certification standards.

The epidemic situation abroad has been recurring. Although many countries have relaxed their epidemic prevention requirements, daily protective products such as masks and hand sanitizers are still in urgent need. Relevant sellers should also pay attention to the product requirements and standards, and do a good job in various aspects of certification to avoid the risk of being removed from the shelves or blocked due to review.
