Alibaba releases third quarter financial report: Globalization continues to progress, overseas consumers exceed 300 million for the first time

On the evening of February 24, Alibaba Group announced its third-quarter results for fiscal year 2022. The number of global annual active consumers in the Alibaba ecosystem reached 1.28 billion, a single-quarter increase of 43 million.

 

The financial report shows that Alibaba's overseas business maintained healthy growth this quarter. As of December 31, 2021, the total number of annual active consumers in Alibaba's overseas markets reached 301 million. In terms of international retail business, in the Southeast Asian market, Lazada's order volume increased by 52% year-on-year; in the Turkish and Middle Eastern markets, Trendyol's orders increased by 49% year-on-year.

In terms of international wholesale business, the transaction volume of foreign trade enterprises on Alibaba International Station increased by 50% year-on-year this quarter. At the same time, Alibaba International Station is providing more value-added services such as international logistics and transaction credit guarantee for foreign trade enterprises. The resulting value-added service revenue increased by 43% year-on-year, driving the overall revenue growth of the international station to 29%.

 

Analysts believe that this shows that Alibaba International Station's revenue structure has become more diversified, the depth and links of digital services provided to merchants are becoming longer, and it is transforming from a foreign trade transaction platform to a comprehensive service platform .

 

Globalization is one of the three major development strategies of Alibaba Group . In January this year , Alibaba established a new overseas digital business sector to further strengthen its globalization strategy. Relying on business scenarios in overseas consumer markets such as AliExpress, Lazada and Trendyol, Alibaba is building logistics network capabilities in Southeast Asia and Europe.

 

On the other hand, the internationalization of cloud computing is another basic capability guarantee for the globalization strategy . This quarter, Alibaba Cloud continued to invest in expanding overseas infrastructure construction, adding two data centers in South Korea and Thailand in the Asia-Pacific region , increasing the number of operating regions around the world to 25.
