Search volume surges by 228%, Italian health and personal care products are experiencing a sales boom!

According to foreign media reports, Italy has ushered in a sales boom for health care, personal care and over-the-counter pharmaceutical products. In the past week, young consumers and female groups have become more and more interested in these products, among which the search volume for FFP2 masks has increased by 228%.

Data shows that in 2021, Italian consumers' online searches for over-the-counter drugs increased by 64%, and their willingness to purchase increased by about 98%. Among them, the proportion of young consumers aged 18-24 increased by about 222%, and the proportion of women among customers who purchased over-the-counter drugs online increased by about 80%.

As for masks, especially FFP2, they reached a search peak on January 3, 2021, with online searches increasing by 228% compared to the last search peak on December 29, 2021.

It is reported that Italians are particularly sensitive to risk factors for health hazards such as insomnia, stress and smoking in 2021. Compared with 2020, online research on insomnia, stress and smoking cessation treatments has increased by more than 200%.

Due to the epidemic, some over-the-counter drugs and medical supplies are very popular among Italian consumers in 2021. In the past year, the sales of painkillers, cough, cold and flu medicines have doubled compared with the same period last year. Many consumers will prepare such preventive medicines at home.

At the same time, Italian consumers are also increasing their research on general health treatments, such as research on women's underwear, which has increased by more than 200%, research on allergy medications, which has increased by 177%, and research on eyes, ears and nose, and gastrointestinal tract-related research has also increased significantly.

Among healthcare devices, sales of blood glucose meters increased by more than 200%, sales of disinfectants increased by 102%, and sales of diabetic products and elastic socks also increased by 71% and 51%, respectively.

However, in contrast, in 2021 Italian consumers' interest in handheld meters for monitoring oxygen saturation and heart rate also fell by 93% and 84% respectively.

With the liberalization of online sales of medicines without prescriptions, the industry has seen rapid growth in Italy in recent years. At the same time, the prices of these products have also fallen slightly, for example, the price of surgical masks in 2021 was nearly 18% lower than the same period last year.
