The latest US e-commerce data for April is out! These five categories are worth paying attention to

Recently, American digital service provider Adobe released the latest e-commerce data in the United States in April.

With rising interest rates and continued inflation, the prices of e-commerce products have increased, and consumers have reduced their spending accordingly. In April, U.S. consumers spent $77.8 billion on online shopping, down $5.28 billion from March.

At the same time, Adobe analyzed 18 categories of goods and found that the price fluctuations in five major categories of goods in US e-commerce were the most obvious in April, which deserves the attention of sellers.

In April, U.S. consumers spent $77.8 billion online, down $5.28 billion from March.

The survey found that in April, U.S. consumers spent $77.8 billion on online shopping, down $5.28 billion from $83.08 billion in March.

Data shows that in April 2022, e-commerce product prices rose 2.9% year-on-year, lower than the record year-on-year growth of 3.6% in March.

Adobe Vice President Patrick Brown said that consumers have reduced their spending due to rising interest rates and continued inflation. However, due to the convenience of online shopping and the personalized customer experience of the digital economy, which are deeply rooted in people's hearts, US e-commerce still received more than $77 billion in spending in April.

Adobe tracks 18 categories on e-commerce websites: electronics, apparel, appliances, books, toys, computers, groceries, furniture/bedding, home improvement, gardening supplies, pet supplies, jewelry, medical supplies, sporting goods, personal care products, flowers/related gifts, over-the-counter drugs and office supplies.

The survey found that prices in 13 of the 18 categories tracked rose year-on-year, with clothing seeing the largest increase.

Prices fell in five categories: electronics, jewelry, books, toys and computers.

Five major e-commerce categories worth noting in the United States in April

Below we focus on analyzing the following categories:

Electronic products: Prices fell 5.2% year-on-year and 0.9% month-on-month. This was the largest year-on-year drop in the category since November 2020. As the category with the largest spending share among e-commerce products, price changes in electronic products have a huge impact on the overall development of e-commerce.

Computers: Prices fell 5.7% year-on-year and 0.7% month-on-month, marking the 16th consecutive month of price declines in this category. From 2015 to 2019, computer prices fell 9.2% year-on-year on average.

· Apparel: Prices increased 12.3% year-over-year and fell 1.7% month-over-month. While the category has now experienced more than a year of price increases, there are signs that apparel prices are beginning to ease back. From November 2021 to March 2022, prices increased more than 15.7% year-over-year each month, much higher than the 12.3% in April.

Groceries: Prices continued to soar, up 10.3% year-over-year and 1.3% month-over-month, setting a new annual record and marking 27 consecutive months of online price increases.

Pet products: Prices increased by 8.0% year-on-year and 0.9% month-on-month. Pet products had the highest year-on-year increase and have been rising in price for two years.

Although the e-commerce data in the United States in April showed that this was the 23rd consecutive month that the prices of e-commerce products had increased year-on-year, a closer look revealed that the price increases of e-commerce products in April showed signs of slowing down.

Inflation and rising interest rates have led to a reduction in consumer spending, but online shopping will still win the hearts of consumers with its convenience and personalized customer experience. Sellers must stick to their original intentions, make good products, seize opportunities and go against the trend in a difficult environment.
