Sales surged 30%! India's demand for household cleaning products is high amid the pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has restricted the way Indian consumers shop. The new consumption patterns show that while Indians pay more attention to their health , their demand for cleaning products has increased, and they try to pass the time by cleaning their houses .

Due to the large domestic service market in the region , there has not been much demand for cleaning household products (such as spin mops , vacuum cleaners , air purifiers and dishwashers) among the Indian people , but the epidemic has completely changed this trend .

As Indian consumers spend more time working and studying from home, they have begun to pay attention to durable consumer goods to meet various needs in daily life.

During the pandemic, most Indian consumers were unable to rely on housekeeping services and had to do the cleaning themselves, so the country's house cleaning products saw an unprecedented increase in sales . In order to minimize the risk of contracting the virus , cleaning household products became a "target" for rush purchases overnight .

After the outbreak, traditional brands have strengthened their online businesses and adopted the latest marketing methods to increase sales . For most household product manufacturing brands , implementing an e-commerce strategy is not only an option, but also an absolutely crucial step .

Cello Group , India’s largest household consumer goods manufacturer , has reported a surge in demand for Kleeno, a cleaning brand that offers a wide range of cleaning products like spin mops, brushes, scrubs, brooms, etc. The company reported a 30% growth in sales of products in the cleaning category over the past few months .

Due to the impact of the pandemic and the lockdown , our business was almost wiped out in the first quarter of the 2020-21 fiscal year. However, from the second quarter onwards, we were able to slowly and steadily rise . During the festive season from September to October last year , we saw an acceleration in business as our sales across all categories soared. As of now, Cello Group’s product sales and overall business have basically returned to 70% of the pre- pandemic levels , said the director of Cello Group.
