As the earliest automotive e-commerce platform in Germany, Mobile.de was established by a web editor and a programmer in 1996. The platform was acquired by eBay in 2004 and is still a subsidiary of eBay Group.

Development History

- Mobile.de was founded in Hamburg in 1996 by Vijay Sapre, a web advertising copywriter, and Ralf Prehn, a programmer. Initially, the innovative company provided online services for a car dealer in Hamburg.

-At the end of 1999, Mobile.de received investment from Granville Baird Capital Partners, a British private securities company, and its business scale began to expand.

-Mobile.de turned a profit for the first time in June 2001.

-In April 2004, Mobile.de was acquired by eBay and moved its headquarters to Berlin in 2005.

-In September 2006, the vehicle parts and accessories sections on Mobile.de and eBay Motors were integrated.

-In 2013, Mobile.de launched its new car business and also started to provide factory ordering and manufacturer inventory car business.

-In September 2015, Mobile.de acquired Motor-Talk, Europe's largest online automotive social platform, hoping to provide more additional information services to platform customers.

-Since August 2017, Mobile.de has provided private car owners with selected car dealers or advertising, engaged in C2C business and charged fees.

-According to relevant statistics in August 2018, 73% of German automobile dealers cooperate with Mobil.de to publish vehicle information. The cooperation ratio between Mobil.de and dealers once reached 92.3%.
