Blind boxes? Auctions? What happens to unclaimed packages?

I wonder if you have ever thought about this question: the volume of express parcels is so huge that many parcels cannot be successfully delivered or signed for every day due to force majeure. So, where do these "failed parcels " end up ?

It is reported that in China, if a package is not picked up by anyone , the express delivery station will keep it for a period of time; if no one claims it for a long time, the station will return the package by the original route , and some stations will even sell these unclaimed packages in the form of low-priced blind boxes .

So what about overseas? What happens to packages that go awry, like those from Amazon and the USPS ?

TikTok creators recently brought the topic to the forefront by posting a series of unboxing videos of the packages , some of which contained cheap items like socks , but others included gift cards, Nike sneakers , and designer wallets .

It is reported that if the US Postal Service package is not claimed within 90 days, the package will be auctioned on the GovDeals website . GovDeals has signed an agreement with the US Postal Service to sell unclaimed packages. The feature of the website is that items are sold in batches , not individually .

In addition, there is a website called Liquidation, which allows buyers to choose blind boxes from companies including Amazon, Target, Walmart, Lowes and Home Depot . Some of the products listed on the website directly display real photos of the items , but most only display pictures of the packaging and its category, as well as estimated retail prices and other information . And depending on the size and weight of the item , buyers need to pay different amounts of shipping fees.

At the same time, according to some Reddit users, UPS will also auction unclaimed packages. FedEx handles unclaimed packages slightly differently. If the package cannot be successfully delivered, FedEx will place the package in a temporary warehouse or handle the shipment according to local laws and policies .

In general, express blind boxes seem to be a way that service providers prefer. In fact, this is not difficult to understand. With the development of society and new popular trends, blind box culture has gradually been loved by more and more users around the world. In this context, products such as blind box toys, blind box clothes and blind box jewelry have also emerged.

But here, the editor still wants to kindly remind you that although the blind box industry is attractive, relevant practitioners must operate legally, and everyone must carefully screen when purchasing and purchase through formal channels, so as not to "lose both the wife and the army."
