Ranked second! Temu takes off in another country

Temu has been rolling out low prices and subsidies since its launch. Now, relying on various advantages, it has successfully entered more than 70 countries and regions in less than two years, winning the favor of a large number of consumers.

Recently, the Confederation of Danish Industry ( Dansk Industri ) made a latest analysis of local consumer habits . The data showed that the Chinese e-commerce platform Temu has become the second largest online shopping platform in Denmark. At the same time, Shein is also among the top ten most popular websites among Danish consumers .

So far, Temu’s popularity has surpassed several established online stores, including Matas, Elgiganten and H&M .

In order to explore the reasons for its popularity, foreign media reporters randomly interviewed some consumers and found that the main reason why people like shopping in Temu is the low prices of goods.

Some young consumers said that they could buy a kettle for 9 kronor, a pair of sunglasses for 27 kronor, and even a pink skirt for 31 kronor on Tmeu, and these offers were really hard to refuse. Another student who bought carnival costumes and posters on Temu said, "I don't have a big budget, so if I can buy them cheaply, I will buy them without hesitation."

Even retired seniors often buy daily necessities on Temu. "I often shop there, or rather, I buy a lot of things there. It's very cheap there."

In addition, some consumers said that the products on Temu are much cheaper than those in stores, which is attractive enough.

Although Temu has become increasingly popular in Denmark, the quality of its products has in fact been controversial in the market for more than a year since it went online last year. The local Consumer Council and the Minister of Environment have even issued warnings to it on issues such as "product safety" and "violation of EU regulations."

Some Danish merchants are also concerned about Temu's rapid growth, believing that its products are unrealistically cheap. The director of the Danish Industrial Trade Association also expressed doubts on this, representing more than 3,000 trading companies in Denmark.

In response to the above warnings and distrust, Temu denied and said that the company regularly conducts spot checks on suppliers, attaches great importance to product safety and quality, and ensures that merchants on the platform comply with safety standards . In addition, Temu also stated that the reason why the goods on the platform are cheap is that the company purchases directly from manufacturers, skipping the middlemen, and not saving costs by lowering standards or quality .

As relevant policies are improved, countries will inevitably strengthen their supervision of major cross-border e-commerce platforms in the future. For platforms such as Temu, if they want to continue to expand rapidly and gain a foothold in a certain market, they must ensure that the platform operates on a legal and compliant track .
