Amazon India recently launched the "Spotlight North East" program and launched a dedicated page to showcase specialties and jewelry from India's Northeast region. The new store on the Indian site has many shelves , displaying products such as the well-known Muga silk saris, Chak-hao black rice, and Naga peppers.
The relevant person in charge of Amazon India said that the exclusive store launched on the site will help the products sold in the region reach millions of Amazon customers, expand market development space and strengthen brand influence. By 2025, Amazon will radiate the benefits to 50,000 local artisans, weavers and small businesses such as Swattik and Boilal .
It is reported that the plan was first proposed in April this year. In its latest initiative, Amazon has cooperated with NEHHDC to enhance the skills and digital capabilities of the artisan community in the region. Amazon said that it will continue to hold training workshops, creative meetings and other means to empower the digitalization of the industry in this region. (NEHHDC is a handicraft and handloom development company in Northeast India.)
Amazon India said that this plan will not only promote the export of key commodities in the region , such as tea, spices , honey , etc. , but also drive local economic development, create jobs, encourage financial inclusion and empower artisans, weavers and women entrepreneurs in the eight states, thereby driving the region from localization to internationalization. This coincides with the Indian government's previous proposal to build India's northeast region into an important commercial destination in the Indian subcontinent.
The northeastern states of India are an important producer of handcrafted heritage and unique agricultural products, many of which carry geographical indication labels. The Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office of the Government of India said that this plan will help the sale and export of unique products from Northeast India and is expected to make the region a commercial hub to introduce "Made in India" products to the world .
