Recently, Australian e-commerce experts conducted a shopping survey on more than 5,000 Australian consumers to understand the consumption preferences of Australian consumers in 2021. For sellers, it also serves as a reference for stocking and selecting products for the coming year.

 

According to the survey, in 2021, Australian consumers' demand for goods such as coffee, ready-to-eat foods, batteries, snacks, pet supplies, etc. has been on an upward trend.

 

Australian consumers have good after-sales reviews on products such as razors, mattresses, and cocktails . The main reason that attracts them to buy these products is that they are unique, interesting, and innovative.

 

With the rise of various online platforms and the establishment of logistics centers in recent years, online shopping has become increasingly important to local consumers. Especially after the epidemic, Australia's e-commerce transaction volume reached US$41.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of 16.8%.

 

According to a survey by Global Data, groceries, electronics, game subscriptions, health and beauty are the main contributors to the growth of e-commerce sales.

 

When it comes to buying such grocery products, Woolworths and Coles are the platforms that consumers prioritize. According to statistics, Woolworths' e-commerce profits increased by 91.8% in 2020, while Coles' online sales also increased by 89.6%.

 

Woolworths said that the long-term blockade has led to an increase in customer home consumption, which has benefited the company's food business, with food sales in the Australian market growing by 3.9% and e-commerce sales penetration reaching a record high of 12.4%. Sales in the quarter climbed 7.8% year-on-year, with e-commerce sales soaring 53.5% year-on-year.

 

In terms of electronic products, Australian consumers spend 62% of their time buying electronic products. From 2016 to 2021, online consumption of electronic products in Australia has achieved significant growth, with an average annual industry growth rate of 18%.

 

According to statistics from Amazon Australia, due to the need for isolation and working from home during the epidemic, wireless Bluetooth headsets, digital pens, mini projectors, webcams with microphones, essential oil aromatherapy machines, power banks, etc., all electronic products necessary for home and office use are more popular among consumers.

 

In addition, some trendy and novel small home appliances, lazy home smart products, etc. have also attracted the attention of local consumers. It is expected that in the next five years, the growth rate of the small home appliance market can reach 6.1%. Products in this area are worthy of sellers' attention.

 

The survey shows that for Australian consumers, stores that offer relevant promotions, product discounts, coupons and other key words will increase their desire to consume, and stores that deliver goods to their doorsteps and provide free return services will also be more popular with them. When selling and promoting, merchants and companies can also try to formulate preferential activities based on the preferences of local consumers.
