System failure or reasonable adjustment? A large number of Etsy sellers received postage adjustment notices

According to foreign media reports, a large number of Etsy sellers claimed that they had received postage adjustment notifications, but due to a malfunction in the Etsy system, the sellers were unable to view the detailed information.

Seller "kathyfickdesigns" posted on the Etsy forum yesterday that she was charged nearly $40 for postage adjustment, but due to a system failure, she could not get Etsy 's information about the affected shipments . In addition, "kathyfickdesigns" could not find a place to contact Etsy in the background , and he was very frustrated .

Under the post, many sellers reported that they had encountered the same thing. One seller said: " It's the same for me. I received a lot of emails today claiming that my 16-ounce package actually weighed just over 12 ounces, but they were charged extra! All the fees are from December 2021! But when I clicked on the details to see why they made the adjustment , I couldn't see anything. "

Some believe that receiving postage adjustment emails is not Etsy 's fault, but rather a program launched by the USPS in August 2017 called the Automated Package Verification System (APV), which verifies that sellers have paid the correct postage for each package by comparing the postage paid through mailing slips with the postage calculated based on the actual package weight and dimensions captured by mail processing scanning equipment .

When a seller pays incorrect postage, an invoice is automatically generated and sent to the label provider, who then pays the Postal Service for the underpaid amount on the customer's behalf or refunds the customer for the overpaid amount.

But soon a seller refuted this claim because he saw someone saying that Etsy had adjusted the postage for an order that hadn't even purchased a shipping label, so it looked more like an Etsy problem. Even more frustrating is that Etsy's customer support is really bad. When buyers try to get in touch with Etsy , every time they click on customer support, the page automatically jumps back to the first page.

It is unclear whether Etsy is aware of the issue, as it has not responded to sellers who have reported it on the forum . But on Etsy's help page, it tells sellers that they can contact USPS directly to dispute shipping label adjustments, including : tracking number ; USPS adjustment ID ; detailed reason for dispute ; seller contact information , etc.

So far, sellers have reported that they can view information about the postage adjustment shipments, but many believe that the adjustment is unreasonable. Some sellers also said that due to Etsy’s poor system , they may stop using Etsy to print shipping labels for their orders.
