Amazon AWS becomes the world's largest cloud infrastructure service provider

The cloud computing market has exploded in recent years , becoming a multi-billion dollar industry. As consumers become more interested in the shift to the cloud, some service providers are striving to capture more market share.

According to Finbold data, Amazon Web Services (AWS) is currently the largest cloud infrastructure service provider , with a market share of 33%. Microsoft's Azure platform ranks second with a share of 21%, followed by Google Cloud with 10%.

It’s worth noting that while Google and Microsoft are becoming important players in the cloud computing space, their market share currently lags behind AWS.

In addition , Alibaba Cloud has a 6% market share and may become the largest cloud service provider outside of North America , while IBM ranks fifth with a 4% market share .

Drivers of Amazon’s Market Dominance

The rapid development of cloud computing is mainly due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic . In the process of shifting to digital solutions , more and more companies regard cloud as an engine for digital transformation and an important technology for improving business continuity.

As a result of the pandemic , vendors that focus on providing business analytics suite services that include office productivity tools have gained more users, going beyond basic cloud infrastructure services.

While most of the leading providers offer similar products, some rely on unique drivers to stand out. Providers like AWS have deployed multiple strategies such as aggressive investments that have expanded their network while lowering prices to attract more users .

Furthermore, AWS has an advantage over its competitors because the platform is able to provide convenience and efficient scalable solutions, attracting a diverse customer base as well as an extensive partner network.

However, while AWS is ahead of its competitors, Microsoft and Google are racing to catch up by accelerating innovation through machine learning and artificial intelligence initiatives . It is worth mentioning that AWS is considered to be lagging behind in AI, a key element of cloud computing.

The dominance of Amazon , Microsoft, and Google has also come under criticism, particularly from an antitrust perspective. Critics have slammed companies like Amazon for abusing their market share control by engaging in anticompetitive behavior , and the Federal Trade Commission is currently conducting an antitrust investigation into AWS.

In addition , as the amount of data processed by cloud computing service providers increases, these systems are vulnerable to cyber attacks such as malware injection , which is also an issue that these service providers need to consider and address.
