In 2022, technology and digital trends will continue to drive the development of e-commerce. According to foreign media reports, French retail giant Carrefour is also preparing to make a "big" investment in digital sales plans, betting on online shopping and live streaming. It is expected that between 2022 and 2026, digital sales investment will increase by about 50%, with a total investment of about US$3.5 billion.
Carrefour has announced a series of digital marketing initiatives in the European market, one of the key projects is to create a store for "on-site shopping", the store is called " Brut Shop " , which is also derived from the cooperation between Carrefour and Brut .
Brut is an online platform and one of the leading digital media companies in Europe, where users can shop online during live events on social networks. It currently has about 70 million users, accounting for 39% of the French social network media market, covering consumers aged 18-34.
Executive Chairman of e-Commerce, Data and Digital Transformation, Carrefour Group Elodie Perthuisot said that Brut and Carrefour have combined the strengths of social media and retail to create the first live shopper community in Europe. By bringing together the retail and social media strengths of both parties, they aim to create the most powerful social commerce platform in the French market. This new community shopping experience will also bring growth and value to both companies.
In recent years, Carrefour has significantly stepped up its e-commerce activities. Currently, Carrefour's sales website in France has more than 15 million unique visitors per month . In 2021, Carrefour also held nearly 50 live shopping events.
In France, 60% of Carrefour customers expressed interest in live shopping services. Many brands and merchants also said that live shopping represents a new way to attract young customers, accelerate e-commerce conversion, and increase differentiation and customer engagement with products.
Carrefour said the social commerce market is one of the levers driving strong growth in global e-commerce by combining consumer habits on social media with users’ desire to interact with brands. It also benefits from the widespread use of this purchasing method by millennials and Generation Z.
Data shows that the social commerce market is estimated to be worth $492 billion and will triple to $1.2 trillion between now and 2025. Live shopping platforms are becoming more and more popular not only in Europe but also in the United States, with dozens of live shopping events taking place on different platforms every day. Major social networks are also improving and adding related features, allowing consumers to purchase directly from the website with one click.
The cooperation between Carrefour and Brut is precisely to take advantage of the live streaming trend, inject new vitality into the development of e-commerce, and create more sales miracles. Carrefour live streaming |
