The Latin American e-commerce platform Meikeduo was founded in Argentina in 1999. Its service scope covers 18 countries in Latin America. It has built an "ecosystem" of six comprehensive services including platform, store management, logistics warehousing, payment, financial technology innovation, and advertising promotion.
Mexico is one of the top three markets for Meikeduo in Latin America. Meikeduo has established three storage centers in Mexico and announced last year that it would invest 1 billion pesos to establish and improve its logistics and distribution network in Mexico.
Meikeduo's heavy investment in Mexico has also paid off during the pandemic. According to tyt , the number of users of Meikeduo's Mexican site has increased by 3.3 million in the past six months. In addition, Alejandro Caballero, Meikeduo's Mexican marketing director, also pointed out that in the past two quarters, in addition to the increase in the frequency of purchases by Mexican consumers, the sales volume of Meikeduo's Mexican site has also soared by 100%.
"E-commerce has been one of the main allies of consumers during the quarantine period, with them buying more online in just one month than they did in the whole year," he said. It is understood that before the outbreak of the epidemic, less than half of the adults in Mexico had bank accounts, and e-commerce sales accounted for less than 5% of total retail sales , which was only 1/3 of the global average . The subsequent outbreak of the epidemic completely ignited the domestic e-commerce economy in Mexico. With the joint efforts of many Mexican companies, Mexico's e-commerce has rapidly achieved a 54% growth.
By the end of 2020, online sales in Mexico had soared 81%, accounting for 9% of total domestic retail sales.
In order to cope with the rapidly growing order volume and logistics distribution needs of the Mexican site, Alejandro Caballero said that they are working hard to set up new logistics operators to be responsible for the delivery of orders. These logistics operators include DHL, FedEx, etc., and have been integrated into Meikeduo's platform system.
In an interview with tyt, Alejandro Caballero said that with the help of Meikeduo's self-built freight network in Mexico, including 3 storage centers, 4 cargo planes and thousands of delivery vehicles, and these cooperative logistics operators, Meikeduo can continue to provide Mexican consumers with a superior online shopping experience and help online sellers on the platform increase sales.
According to statistics, the more popular product categories in the Mexican market include fashion products, toys, furniture, home appliances, food and personal care. Meikeduo Mexico |
