A year-on-year increase of 78%! Russia's online parcel volume reached 1.5 billion in 2021

Recently, Data Insight released the final report on the Russian e-commerce logistics market in 2021. The online market shipments reached 1.57 billion pieces, an increase of 78% over 2020. The report reveals important data and trends in the Russian e-commerce logistics market in 2021.

Specifically, 75% of the parcels delivered in 2021 came from online sellers ' own logistics services, 64% came from Wildberries and Ozon, of which 49% came from Wildberries.

In terms of logistics and delivery methods, pickup points are still the main local delivery channel . In 2021, 82% of online orders in Russia were delivered by pickup . It is estimated that the number of pickup points in Russia will exceed 50,000 , of which about 38 % are traditional pickup points, 33% are through parcel lockers, and 27% are stores.

The significant increase in parcel volume is mainly due to the rapid development of the e-commerce market. According to Infoline's preliminary forecast, Russia's e-commerce market grew by 40% in 2021, and representative platforms Wildberries , Ozon and AliExpress Russia all grew rapidly.

According to Wildberries' forecast, its profits will reach about 18 billion rubles (US$236 million), and the number of Wildberries users has reached 113 million. These users purchased more than 1 billion products through the platform in 2021, an increase of 81% from 2020. Among them, the "clothing, shoes and accessories" category accounted for the largest share of sales, with sales of 336.5 billion rubles (a year-on-year increase of 55%).

Ozon and AliExpress Russia's sales are also growing. During the Double 11 period, AliExpress Russia's sales reached 33.3 billion rubles, and more than 25.6 million orders were placed during the sales period. With rapid development, Ozon is also continuously increasing the construction of infrastructure such as warehouses and distribution centers to continuously enhance its competitiveness in the market.

As the world's ninth largest e-commerce market, Russia is in a period of vigorous development and also has huge potential. Sellers in related markets should also pay more attention to local consumption trends and make reasonable market layout.
