Before the COVID-19 pandemic , Canadians liked to make coffee at home . The outbreak has accelerated the development of the home coffee industry, prompting more people to shift their coffee consumption from physical stores to home coffee. Currently, the amount of coffee purchased by Canadians at home catering service outlets has reached 26%.
And, to achieve the brick-and-mortar coffee shop experience, Canadians are buying coffee equipment at unprecedented levels : The NPD Group reports that more than 3.5 million coffee and espresso-making devices were sold at retail in Canada in the past 12 months .
This means that one-third of Canadian households have now purchased a new coffee machine, and this consumption trend has continued since the beginning of the epidemic. According to NPD's continuous tracking of home industry sales, more than 6.7 million coffee machines have been sold in the Canadian market since March 2020.
Pam Wood, home industry analyst for the NPD Group , said that given Canadians ' love for coffee, it's not surprising that they invest a lot of time and money to bring a delicious coffee experience into their homes. Even when the epidemic returns to normal and work and study return to normal, Canadians will continue to derive happiness from their home coffee experience .
Pam Wood also reminded that home product manufacturers can benefit by developing products that can provide customers with a variety of delicious products , and by offering different flavors to enable consumers to have a physical coffee shop experience at home .
Although most coffee is currently ground and made at users' homes , this is not entirely a bad thing for the physical coffee industry .
According to NPD food service industry analyst Vince Sgabellone , offline physical coffee sales fell by about 700 million servings in the 12 months before the pandemic , but nearly a quarter of those lost sales were recovered between the second and fourth quarters of 2021 as students returned to school and employees returned to the workplace .
In the past year ending November 2021 , coffee sales in Canada increased by 2% compared with the same period a year ago , while coffee sales in the year ending November 2020 decreased by 24% compared with the same period the previous year.
Sgabellone said that before March 2020 , sales of coffee in physical stores had slowed down and were unlikely to reach pre- epidemic levels. For food service providers , finding the best way to reach consumers is the most important thing .
Sgabellone mentioned that despite the impact on the coffee industry , drive -thru and takeout coffee orders have increased. Although the market share of takeout coffee in Canada is still small, it has more than tripled since 2019 .
In fact, not only in Canada, but also in Europe, America and Australia, many people like to grind and make coffee at home. The market for coffee equipment and coffee utensils has always had great room for development. Sellers who have related products can pay more attention to relevant information and pay attention to the development trend of the industry.
