Explosive growth: The autonomous delivery market is set to take off

The global autonomous delivery market is expected to be worth $860 million in 2021. Although this is a large number , the autonomous delivery market is still in its infancy.

According to consulting firm Markets   and   The Markets report predicts that by 2030, the autonomous delivery market will grow to $4.9 billion, with a compound annual growth rate of 21.5%.

The report combines ground transport vehicles such as self-driving trucks, vans and delivery robots into one group and freight and delivery drones into another , breaking down specific growth by category .

The report mentioned that regardless of the segment category , autonomous delivery through self-driving technology can reduce the "last mile" business costs in the retail industry by 80% to 90%.

At the same time, advances in ground transportation vehicle technology and increased investment in the development of more advanced ground transportation vehicles will also promote market growth . Last year, venture capital firms invested $24.3 billion in supply chain, with about half of the funds going to last-mile delivery companies.

Markets   and   Markets said that the global epidemic has accelerated the demand for autonomous delivery services . Suppliers are trialing autonomous delivery by drones and robots to deliver goods to customers without human contact . Demand from the food and retail industries will drive the adoption of delivery drones and self-driving cars, while demand for long-range cargo drones (traveling more than 12 miles) will exceed that of other industries during the forecast period.

According to the editor, there are currently at least 160 companies involved in the field of autonomous delivery. In recent years, the number of companies in this field has exploded, including JD.com, Amazon , UPS , Uber and other large companies have launched unmanned autonomous delivery services .

In addition, hundreds of companies are testing related services . FedEx and Domino's are working with Nuro to test robot delivery in Texas , and Walmart is also working with Gatik to test autonomous delivery services .

Zebra Technologies' 2018 survey data also showed that 78 % of respondents predicted that robot delivery services will be popular by 2028 , 81% of respondents expected that drone delivery will be commonplace, and 85% of respondents expected that self-driving car delivery services will be the most common .

Regarding the development of the autonomous delivery market, Markets   and   North America, especially the United States, will lead the world during this period , Markets said, noting that investments by governments and private companies will drive rapid development of last-mile autonomous delivery businesses .
