The recent increase in freight rates has attracted the attention of all parties. First, the US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) organized a China-US-EU Maritime Regulatory Summit, and then shipping companies announced that they would stop raising spot freight rates. On September 9, the US Federal Maritime Commission announced the establishment of an advisory committee, saying that it was mainly to deal with issues related to container and shipping law reform .
As more actions are taken in the shipping sector, many people are looking forward to a turnaround (freight rates cooling down), but the reality is not as expected. The reality is that even if all parties take action, the increase in freight rates continues. In addition, due to the increase in shipping costs, some sellers and companies have chosen various forms such as chartering ships and air transportation. However, sellers have found that air freight prices have also risen and some ports are still severely congested.
According to the FMC's press release, the committee is composed of staff from 24 U.S. import and export traders, including Amazon, Walmart, Target, Wayfair, IKEA, etc. The committee members will provide systematic advice to the committee on policies related to competitiveness, reliability, integrity and fairness of international shipping . Partial list of members Daniel B. Maffei , Chairman of the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission , said that after the establishment of the committee, the FMC can quickly understand the views of local importers and exporters on the realities of daily shipping, and they also need to meet with each other, so as to help and guide the FMC and those outside the FMC to improve the system and make it easier, fairer and more efficient for American shippers to work. According to the announcement, the members of the committee will serve until December 31, 2024.
In addition to the need to solve the shipping problem, the epidemic and natural disasters have also brought about transportation disruptions, insufficient containers, port congestion and other problems. This year, the imbalance in the cross-border e-commerce circle has become increasingly obvious. One of them is the sharp contrast between the increasing costs of sellers caused by rising freight rates and the lucrative profits of shipping companies. Ocean Freight FMC container |
