More popular than WhatsApp! 80% of foreigners choose Facebook for shopping

Online shopping through Facebook and WhatsApp has become popular around the world. Financial technology company (FaaS) Rapyd conducted a study in Mexico, Colombia, Argentina and Brazil. In Mexico, 80% of people choose to shop on Facebook, while the usage rate of WhatsApp is 39%, which is lower than Facebook, but it is also quite popular in the country.

After Mexico, Argentina has 73% of consumers choosing to shop on Facebook, followed by Colombia and Argentina with 72% and 66% respectively.

When it comes to WhatsApp, 53% of Colombians have made purchases on it, compared to 39% in Mexico; 59% of Brazilian consumers have made purchases through Instagram, compared to 43% in Argentina.

Among Brazilians surveyed, 63% said they had tried shopping through social networks; Mexicans and Colombians followed closely at 57% and 54% respectively; Argentines had the lowest proportion at 38%.

It is worth noting that for shopping through social networks, a purchase study by Facebook found that the preferred method for consumers in Mexico and Colombia is bank transfer. In Brazil, credit card payment accounts for the majority. Meanwhile, in Argentina, bank transfer and payment at convenience stores rank first. Although PayPal is not the most used in Brazil, Mexico and Colombia, it ranks second and is used more frequently.

There are many e-commerce tools on Meta's flagship social network. According to statistics, MarketPlace is the most popular. Other resources such as Shops and Live Shopping are also commonly used by merchants. They hope to use this platform to show more products to different audiences.

In the era of increasingly developed social networks, more and more consumers will consume unconsciously when browsing and using social software, and will also specifically use social software to find shopping inspiration. Therefore, social network platforms are also investing more and more in the shopping consumption sector, making it more convenient for merchants and consumers to use.

In the short term, the status of social networks will only rise. Therefore, when sellers are planning and formulating marketing strategies, they can use social platforms as a key reference to increase the exposure and popularity of their stores, thereby achieving the goal of increasing sales.
