Fashion leads global online market growth

According to the international market research organization Research   and   More than half of the growth in global retail sales between 2020 and 2025 is expected to come from online sales , a new report from Markets finds .

The agency 's annual global apparel B2C e-commerce market report said that between 2020 and 2025, about 10% of online sales are expected to be in the hands of the fashion industry . As the epidemic continues, sales in the global fashion market will continue to shift online .

Since the outbreak of the epidemic in 2020 , sales in the global fashion industry have dropped sharply. At the same time, the online clothing market has accelerated its growth , and consumers have become more accepting of online shopping . From 2019 to 2020, Global   Fashion   Sales at major online retailers such as the Global Fashion Group and ASOS increased by 10% to 20%.

The report said that during the epidemic, e-commerce sales in the apparel industry in a large part of the world's countries increased. For example , online clothing and accessories retail sales in the United States increased by nearly 19% year-on-year from 2019 to 2020, making it the fastest growing product category in the region .

In Japan, the B2C apparel e-commerce market grew faster in 2020 than in 2018 and 2019 ; sales in South Korea also increased during the same period, and the apparel industry made the largest contribution to the country's B2C e-commerce market in 2020.

According to the world ranking of the most popular clothing e-commerce websites, the most visited websites for buying clothing online in 2021 are Amazon and SHEIN . Since August 2021 , SHEIN has been the most visited fashion e-commerce website in the world , with American visitors dominating.

In addition, in 2020, online clothing sales in the United States were dominated by Amazon, followed by Target. In the UK, as of February 2021, the most popular fashion e-commerce websites were Amazon and ASOS, followed by eBay. In Germany, as of 2021, online platforms such as Zalando and Zooplus were the favorite retailers for consumers to buy clothes , followed by Amazon.

However, as sales on fashion e-commerce platforms grow, some problems also arise, such as the increase in return costs. Many consumers buy multiple sizes of products at one time and then return the unsuitable ones, which brings huge return costs to retailers.
