Italy sees wine and board game shopping boom

As the year draws to a close, Italian consumers are starting to see a surge in online purchases of alcohol and board game products to celebrate the New Year.

 

According to the latest survey by idealo , at the end of this year, Italians' online searches for sparkling wine increased by 98%, and online searches for living room games increased by 111% .

 

Idealo said that in 2021, online alcohol purchases are growing. In 2021 , Italian consumers' interest in wine and spirits increased by 6.5% compared with the same period in 2020. In addition, the booming e-commerce has stimulated the birth and growth of many new online wine stores , and many wineries have had to start switching to online business due to the decline in offline sales.

 

Sales of after-dinner liqueurs and bitters are also on the rise. According to idealo data, rum sales account for 11% of the total alcohol market , followed by whiskey, amari and wine.

 

Idealo believes that wine is the real winner in the "alcohol" category this year . It is reported that in the past two weeks, the online search volume of wine has surged by more than 90% compared with the same period last year ; the search volume of liqueur ranks second in this category , with an increase of 52% ; the search volume of cognac brandy has increased by 33%.

 

Among the searchers for alcoholic products, consumers who choose to buy wine and spirits online are usually men between the ages of 25 and 34 , and searches are mainly conducted through mobile devices .

 

In addition to alcoholic beverages, searches for board games are also surging in order to make the New Year more interesting. Board games can be given as holiday gifts to others , or bought for yourself to spend a happy time with friends and family .

 

Data shows that in December , online searches in the category grew by 111% . Among adult board games , popular titles range from classics such as Monopoly and Illustrated to new titles such as Paper House Escape ; while among children's board games , interest in action games , especially searches for Happy Doctor's Surgery and Ghost Eyes, is increasing significantly .

 

During the holidays, online shoppers who choose to give board games to friends and family are typically women between the ages of 25 and 34, and the majority of these purchases are made via mobile devices.
