Nearly 80,000 domestic ceiling fans were recalled, causing 60 falling accidents

Recalls are frequent and involve a variety of categories. Some products may not meet product standards or may have safety hazards. The latter is a bigger problem. A slight negligence may threaten the personal safety of consumers. Recently, two domestic ceiling fans were recalled due to safety issues.

The fans involved in the recall are Harbour Breeze Belleisle Bay and Honeywell Rio. The former has two models, one with a brushed nickel shell and the other with an oil-rubbed bronze shell, both of which are composed of three matte black fan blades, a frosted white glass bowl light and a reversible motor with a remote control.

The other brand involves five models, namely oil-rubbed bronze shell finish, champagne shell finish, pewter shell finish, brushed nickel shell finish, and white shell finish, with the same configurations as above.

The recall is due to the risk of blades falling off the fan during use, posing a risk of impact injury to consumers. The product was sold on multiple platforms including Amazon and Wayfair from February 2018 to August 2021, with a price of approximately US$150 and involving 77,900 units.

"We have received 60 reports of blades falling off fans, including three reports of blades causing property damage to drywall, but no injuries were reported.

The two ceiling fans were manufactured in Hong Kong, China. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends that consumers should immediately stop using the recalled fans and contact the Hong Kong manufacturing company, provide photos and date codes of the fans to confirm that their fans are within the recall range , and receive free replacements by mail.

Although ceiling fans are relatively rare nowadays, the hidden risks are worthy of everyone's attention. Cases of domestic product recalls are not uncommon in recent times. No matter what category the seller is in, quality must be put first.
