According to research from the San Diego Chamber of Commerce ( CCS) and Kawesqar, 16% of consumers expect to buy more goods this Christmas , compared to just 2% last year .
After the uncertain Christmas of 2020, only 70% of consumers announced that they would reduce their holiday purchases, but this year the situation is gradually improving. This year, the proportion of consumers who reduced their Christmas shopping has dropped to 46%.
In addition to this , the percentage expecting to increase Christmas shopping rose from 2% last year to 16% in December this year. 19% said they intended to increase their spending this year, and a further 3% said they did not shop for Christmas in 2020 but would buy goods in 2021.
Meanwhile, the study showed that 36% will maintain their holiday spending levels, while the remaining 42% plan to spend less.
In terms of socioeconomic level, the high-income group has the highest spending growth, exceeding 20 % . The purchased goods are still mainly clothing, shoes and hats, accounting for 70% and 41% respectively , beauty and personal care products account for 38% , accessories account for 36%, children's products account for 29%, food and technology products account for 25% and 24% respectively .
The research also shows that the public is flocking to physical stores in a sharp increase. The data shows that 56% of consumers will do their Christmas shopping in shopping malls, which is much higher than last year's 25%. At the same time, 37% of people will also go to physical supermarkets ( this figure was 29% in 2020), 26% will go to shops and markets in the city center, and 14% will buy from street vendors .
As far as online stores are concerned, 35% want to buy from multi-store websites, 29% from entrepreneur e-commerce, 16% from marketplaces, and 14% from foreign websites.
Christmas is the final battle of the year, and the amount of shopping for buyers is also affected by the epidemic, supply chain and other issues. Due to concerns about insufficient goods, consumers have started to stock up very early, which has also led to a decrease in the number of buyers' shopping in recent times. In Latin America, the sales performance of Black Friday and Cyber Monday is quite gratifying, which also surprised many sellers. The upcoming Christmas naturally makes more sellers look forward to such emerging markets. Christmas rise Shopping volume |
