Chile's Black Friday sales reached 500 million, setting a new record!

Black Friday sales in the United States declined for the first time, but sales in Latin America were encouraging. According to CCS data, Chile’s Black Friday sales set a record of US$500 million, with buyers placing around 10 million orders, accounting for one-third of the total.

Chile has a total population of about 18.19 million , and online shoppers account for one-third of its smartphone Internet access population, with growing consumption potential. Clothing and shoes, electronic products, furniture, electrical appliances and decorations are the hot-selling categories in the country. Amazon, Walmart, AliExpress and many other platforms are competing for this market. Not only Chile, but the entire Latin American region has been included in the "potential market" that major e-commerce companies are competing for .

According to CCS, Ricardo Blümel, manager of the Strategy and Marketing Department of Transbank, said that online shopping has not stopped growing, reaching almost 30% of credit card payments in the third quarter of 2021. This Black Friday further strengthened the trend of e-commerce as a comprehensive sales channel in the country, with more than 3 million transactions during the event . In order to deepen the development of this digital economy, he stressed the need to join forces to modernize financial habits related to the use of cash, listen to customers and develop simpler and safer solutions .

During Black Friday, sales in other Latin American countries, including Brazil, exceeded 5.4 billion reais, and Colombia, exceeded 800 million U.S. dollars. As one of the fastest growing economies in Latin America, Chile's consumption level and product demand are increasing day by day.

It is understood that the participation of physical stores and foundations in this Chilean Black Friday made a lot of contributions to the record-breaking event. The event brought together more than 1,700 physical and online stores. Among them, small and medium-sized enterprises, regions and foundations performed particularly well. The number of participating e-commerce companies was about 500.

It is understood that the global sales of "Black Friday" in 2021 will exceed 60 billion US dollars, an increase of 2% over last year. According to relevant data, the total sales of B2C e-commerce in Chile reached 9.4 billion US dollars in 2020, and it is expected that this figure will reach 12 billion US dollars by 2021.
