Australia's holiday consumer market is active, with 76% of consumers planning to shop during the peak season!

A set of data recently released by the Australian Retailers Association (ARA) showed that the total retail sales in October 2021 increased by 4.2% over the previous year and 10.1% over the same period before the epidemic in 2019, based on online and in-store payment data. This shows that Australians are beginning to "let themselves go" and make up for the shopping time lost due to the epidemic.

ARA chief executive Paul Zahra expects consumers to continue their shopping spree during Australia's Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping festivals, which usually start in late November, spending a combined $5.4 billion.

According to a survey by consumer research agency Power Retail, 76% of Australian consumers said they would shop during the upcoming shopping season, and 51% of them planned to participate in online promotions.

The survey results show that 58% of people choose to shop during the holiday peak season because of the free delivery policy, and 21% because they think the product discounts are large. This shows that price is not the main reason for consumers to place orders. If merchants want to increase sales during normal sales, they can also start with logistics discounts.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, online retail was the "biggest winner" during the lockdown and has continued to grow steadily since the lockdown, with growth breaking records every month since June 2021.

Paul Zahra said that although the epidemic has been recurring in 2021, consumers still maintain a positive attitude towards consumption. Especially with the arrival of Christmas, retailers and consumers will start to get busy with shopping.

According to past experience, 45% of Australian consumers will buy 3C products and 36% will buy fashion and accessories during shopping festivals. In addition, as people are now engaging in more social activities, the demand for clothing, skin care products, etc. is expected to increase.

Therefore, sellers can adjust product types and marketing strategies in a timely manner according to local conditions so as to take corresponding countermeasures in the upcoming peak season.
