According to a survey of 2,000 British adults by eBay , one in two Brits ( 57%) use charity shops, and more than a third (34%) of Brits say they would be more willing to buy second-hand products if it helps someone else . In addition, nearly a quarter (22%) said they would do more charity shopping in the next year.
The survey shows that the items most likely to be purchased for charity are books ( 53 %) , interior items ( 32%) and coats (30%). When buying the latter two, British people often choose second-hand rather than new ones, which is also beneficial to the circular economy .
The survey was commissioned by eBay UK to mark the launch of Charity Connect , a six-month programme to help hundreds of charities train digitally on the eBay platform .
eBay said that to date , 87 million used items have found buyers through eBay . As the " Charity Connect " program enters its second year, the platform will continue to work with charities to enable them to reach 29 million eBay users.
At last year’s ‘ Charity Connect ’ event , charities including the British Red Cross , Marie Curie and the Vision Foundation took part in a series of workshops on how to boost sales on eBay, including one-to- one sessions with e-commerce experts , all with the aim of helping charity retailers build an effective online platform .
According to the editor, with the rise of second-hand shopping, British people can also choose to donate 10% to 100% of the proceeds from the sale of their goods to more than 11,000 charities on eBay.
According to statistics, in 2020, the eBay UK community raised nearly £31 million, of which £27 million came from charities selling on the platform. To date, eBay for Charity has raised $1.1 billion worldwide and has raised £199 million for UK charities since 2007. Social e-commerce eBay Platform |
