Recently , the U.S. Food and Drug Administration ( FDA) announced the recall of ArtNaturals brand hand sanitizers because these products contain carcinogens.
The FDA said in a recall notice that the recalled hand sanitizer is labeled "DIST. by artnaturals Gardena, CA 90248." The agency said that when it tested the hand sanitizer , it found "unacceptable" levels of contaminants such as benzene, acetaldehyde and acetal .

The FDA says all three chemicals are dangerous to humans . Benzene may cause certain types of cancer. Animal studies have shown that acetaldehyde can also cause cancer in humans and may cause serious illness or death. Acetal can irritate the upper respiratory tract, eyes and skin.
While the risks of using hand sanitizers containing benzene, acetaldehyde , and acetal are unknown, the FDA advises consumers not to use these products. The FDA asks people who have purchased ArtNaturals hand sanitizer to stop using it immediately and throw it away .
Online pharmacy Valisure discovered earlier this year that ArtNaturals' products contained high levels of benzene. According to Valisure, ArtNaturals' hand sanitizers are manufactured in China and sold by ArtNaturals.
"To date, the FDA has made multiple attempts to discuss with Art Naturals regarding the manufacturer's identification, recall requirements , and the scope of distribution of the product , but has not received a response, " the FDA said in the announcement .
It is understood that Artnaturals ' hand sanitizer is sold on platforms such as Amazon and Walmart . Other products of the brand are also sold on platforms such as Amazon, Walmart and Target.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic , consumer demand for hand sanitizers has increased , and more and more brands and manufacturers are selling hand sanitizers on the market, but the safety and quality issues related to hand sanitizers have also increased. Many disinfectant hand sanitizers have been found to contain carcinogens.
In addition to the three substances mentioned above, methanol (also known as wood alcohol) is also banned from being added to hand sanitizers in the U.S. According to the FDA, only two alcohols, ethanol and isopropyl alcohol, are allowed to be added to hand sanitizers.
Coppertone Sunscreen Spray In addition to hand sanitizers, beauty products are also hard-hit areas for carcinogens. The FDA recalled five Coppertone sunscreen sprays in early October, and the reason for the recall was also excessive benzene.
When producing and selecting products, relevant sellers should pay attention to whether the products contain harmful substances that are banned locally to avoid causing losses to themselves. handwashing fluid Carcinogens Amazon |
