According to a survey recently released by Reclame Aqui, a Brazilian consumer protection website, Chinese e-commerce websites have become the first choice for Brazilians to shop online. According to statistics, about 56.5% of the respondents have shopped on Chinese e-commerce platforms, and the main reason for their choice is that the products are of good quality and low price.
The survey was conducted between August 23 and 25, with a total of 24,305 Brazilian consumers participating. According to the survey data, AliExpress, Shopee and Shein are the main shopping platforms chosen by Brazilians.
Among these platforms, electronic products, clothing and cosmetics are competitively priced and are popular among Brazilian consumers. In addition, the discount coupons and free delivery services provided by the platforms are also highlights that attract Brazilian consumers.
The data shows that 54.7% of consumers choose to shop on this platform because of the favorable product prices ; 18.6% of consumers said that they can find products on the Chinese platform that cannot be found in Brazil; and 13.6% of consumers said that they were attracted by the discounts on the website.
Among the products purchased by Brazilian respondents on Chinese e-commerce platforms, the most popular are electronic products and accessories including headphones, sound bars, TV sticks, graphics cards, etc., accounting for 21.1%; followed closely by clothing categories, accounting for 18.1%; third place is cosmetics, perfumes and other beauty products, accounting for 11.1%.
The survey also pointed out that 55.1% of Brazilian consumers want to shorten delivery time, and 26.3% want to improve the store's after-sales service.
As for the respondents who have not used Chinese e-commerce platforms, 82.1% of them are used to shopping on Brazilian websites. As for the reasons for not choosing Chinese e-commerce platforms, 27.9% of consumers believe that shopping abroad is not safe; 26.1% lack trust in overseas websites; and 17.9% believe that the delivery time for overseas shopping is too long.
Although more and more Brazilians are shopping on Chinese e-commerce websites, the total amount of consumption is still at a low level. According to statistics, in 2021, 38.5% of buyers spent no more than 150 reais (about 183 yuan) on such platforms, and only 13% of buyers spent more than 800 reais (about 975 yuan).
But in general, during the epidemic prevention and control period, the demand for online shopping in Latin America increased significantly, and the e-commerce economy is still on an upward trend. In addition to Brazil, more and more Latin American consumers are beginning to "go online". According to eMarkete data, since the epidemic prevention and control, the installation volume of e-commerce applications in Brazil has increased by 99.3% compared with the same period last year. It can be seen that the e-commerce market in Brazil and even Latin America still has a lot of room for growth.
