8 deaths reported, over 3.3 million baby recliners recalled!

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission ( CPSC) and Health Canada are recalling more than 3.3 million Boppy infant loungers due to a choking hazard .

The recalled products are Boppy Original, Boppy Preferred and Pottery Barn Kids Boppy, which are approximately 23 inches long, 22 inches wide and 7 inches high.

Boppy sold about 3.3 million units of the product in the U.S. at Pottery Barn Kids , Target , Walmart and Amazon, with prices ranging from $ 30 to $44. It also distributed about 35,000 units in Canada .

It is reported that the Boppy lounge chair is a lounge chair specially designed for the various characteristics of babies. It allows babies to kick their feet freely. The uniquely designed concave inner surface perfectly corresponds to the buttocks of newborns, and also allows parents to free their hands to interact with their babies.

However, if a baby rolls into something that blocks his or her breathing, such as the side of a recliner or other bedding, he or she may suffocate.

So far, CPSC has received eight reports of infant deaths related to the Boppy recliner. According to reports, these babies died of suffocation when they were lying on their sides or stomachs in the recliner without supervision.

The CPSC said nearly a thousand babies die each year in their sleep. Infant recliners are not designed for sleeping and are not safe. The risk posed by the Boppy recliners is too great to continue on the market.

The CPSC also emphasizes that babies spend most of their time sleeping, and because suffocation can occur very quickly, parents and caregivers should not add other items such as blankets and pillows to their baby's sleeping environment.

The best place for infants to sleep is on a firm, flat surface in a crib, cradle or play yard. CPSC does not recommend the use of infant sleep products that have a backrest that tilts more than 10 degrees. Parents and guardians should also not put infants and young children to sleep on other tilted products such as car seats and bouncers, and should follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Currently, this baby recliner is no longer available on Amazon, but the editor has learned that there are still a large number of similar products on sale. In fact, baby recliners have been on the best-selling baby product list for many years. When selling related products, sellers need to emphasize that the product is not suitable for use as a sleeping place for babies.
