Half-year revenue of nearly 2 billion! Plush toy giant Delin International is gaining momentum

Toys are a major category of consumer spending. As people's living standards improve, parents' spending on entertainment and companionship for their children's growth and development continues to increase. It is understood that the toy market is gradually growing not only in developed countries, but also in many developing countries.

 

Recently, plush toy manufacturing giant Delin International released its 2021 interim report. The report showed that the group's revenue in the first half of the year was HK$1.959 billion (equivalent to RMB 1.628 billion) , a year-on-year increase of 20.25% ; gross profit reached HK$250 million (approximately RMB 208 million).

 

It is understood that Delin International was established nearly 40 years ago. It started to develop toy business in South Korea in 1984, with the design, development, production and sales of various plush toys and investment holding as its main business. It entered China in 1992 and established a company in Hong Kong, China. After that, it successively established factories in Shenzhen, Shanghai, Anhui and other places in China. On February 7, 2002, it was listed on the main board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, becoming the first Korean company to be listed in Hong Kong, China.

 

Over the years, as the toy market continues to change, the company's toy categories have also been evolving, from the ride-on toys launched in 1992, to the plastic model business launched in 2011, and then to the doll business in 2016 with the assistance of Hasbro and Mattel. However, it is reported that the doll business is not large in scale, so the revenue is temporarily ranked below the plush toy business.

 

The group's 2021 semi-annual report shows that plastic prototype models are the largest product revenue segment, accounting for 52.7% of total revenue . According to Delin International, the plastic prototype model segment maintained its growth momentum and became the main growth driver of the group.

 

From the perspective of market regions, North America is still the company's largest revenue market . According to the report, in the first six months of 2021, the North American market accounted for 74.7% of the group's total revenue , with the main contributions coming from Funko and SpinMaster in the North American market . Disney is also one of Delin International's main customers. As Disney continues to enter the Chinese market in recent years, the proportion of its business in the Chinese market has also been increasing.


According to data from Euromonitor and China Business Industry Research Institute, the United States is the world's largest toy consumer, accounting for 28.15% of global toy retail sales ; the Chinese toy market accounts for 13.80% of global toy retail sales, making it the largest toy consumer in Asia ; the British toy market accounts for 4.82% of global toy retail sales, making it the largest toy consumer in Europe .


Today, the global toy market is still expanding, and it is expected that toy sales will continue to increase during the upcoming "Black Friday" and Christmas season in November. Sellers can market and carry out shopping activities in North America, Europe and developing countries where the toy consumption market is growing rapidly!
