Pitney Bowes is a global technology company that provides business solutions in e -commerce, shipping, mail, data and finance .
The company recently released U.S. data for its latest parcel shipping index and will release data for the global index later this month, which will include data from 13 countries, including the top eight countries by GDP.
The data shows that the number of packages in the United States increased by 37% year-on-year in 2020 to 20 billion, up from 15 billion in 2019. In 2020 , about 640 packages were shipped every second, compared with 466 in 2019. Between 2015 and 2020, the number of packages in the United States doubled, from 10 billion to 20 billion.
According to Pitney Bowes predicts a 10% compound annual growth rate from 2021 to 2025. By 2026, the number of packages in the United States will double again to 32-39 billion pieces.

ØReached US $171 billion – a year-on-year increase of 29%. Ø UPS generated the highest operating revenue with $60 billion, FedEx generated $58 billion, USPS $ 33 billion, and the rest of the companies had a combined revenue of $2 billion. Ø USPS's package revenue increased by 40% year-on-year, FedEx increased by 26%, and UPS increased by 15%.
Carrier Market Share
ØBy revenue, UPS has the highest parcel market share (35%, down from 39% in 2019), followed by FedEx (34%, down from 35% in 2019 ), USPS (19%, up from 18% in 2019 ) and Amazon Logistics (10%, up from 6% in 2019 ). ØBy sales volume, USPS has the highest market share (38%, the same as in 2019), followed by UPS (24%, lower than 30% in 2019 ), Amazon Logistics (21%, higher than 13% in 2019 ) and FedEx (16%, lower than 18% in 2019 ). Ø In 2020, USPS delivered 7.6 billion parcels, up from 5.7 billion in 2019; UPS delivered 4.9 billion parcels, up from 4.4 billion in 2019 ; and FedEx delivered 3.3 billion parcels , up from 2.7 billion in 2019 .
Amazon Logistics
ØRevenue increased to $18 billion, up 109% year-over-year. Parcel delivery volumes more than doubled from last year, increasing 127% from 1.9 billion to 4.2 billion. ØThe number of last-mile package deliveries to carriers doubled in 2020 (2.8 billion) compared to 2019 (1.4 billion) .
