Wildberries starts selling over-the-counter medicines online

According to foreign media reports, Wildberries, one of Russia's largest online retailers, has started selling over-the-counter drugs online since September 6 , including antihistamines, painkillers, dermatology drugs , etc. The company said that these over-the-counter drugs can now be delivered in the Moscow area. In the future, over-the-counter drug delivery services will be launched in other cities in the Russian Federation .

The medicines sold and delivered on Wildberries come directly from large Russian pharmacy chains , which ensures the high quality of the medicines and complies with Russian legal requirements. Wildberries said that their first partners are Samson Pharma and Monastyrev.rf pharmacy chains. According to Wildberries' plan, the number of drug sellers on the online platform will gradually increase.

Wildberries classifies such goods as those of social significance, so the transaction commission for this category on the platform is only 5%, including the payment system's acquiring fee, which will enable Russian consumers to purchase medicines at affordable prices.

In terms of delivery service, Wildberries said that orders for over-the-counter medicines will be processed within 24 hours , and orders over 2,000 rubles can be delivered free of charge . In addition, delivery terms may vary depending on the city where the consumer lives .

Wildberries' press service said that during the COVID-19 pandemic, Russian consumers not only need delivery services for food and other daily necessities, they also need medicines that are essential for daily life .

Previously, service provider PIM Solutions found that Russian consumers' demand for medicines and health products is increasing after analyzing the sales data of medicines and health products in 2020 and the first half of 2021. In 2020, sales of health products on Wildberries surged 2778% , especially in masks, gloves, medical equipment and orthopedic products .

It is reported that Russia has just allowed the online sale of over-the-counter drugs on September 1. The increase in online sales categories will become one of the driving forces for the development of the Russian e-commerce market . With the development of the Russian e-commerce market, there will be more categories that can be sold online in the future. Sellers can also learn about relevant information to seize market opportunities in future development.
