Following eBay and Etsy, Facebook is also launching badges similar to "Top Sellers" and "Star Sellers" on its shopping stores. These badges will provide identification for sellers who provide high-quality services.
Facebook announced this week that “to help customers shop and easily identify great shops across Facebook and Instagram, we’re testing a new label that identifies shops that offer a consistent shopping experience.”
On Facebook, stores that receive these badges are called "Preferred Shops", and eligible stores will automatically display the "Preferred" label. At the same time, Facebook also announced the selection criteria for preferred stores.
Preferred stores are required to provide the following services for most products: 1. Free shipping; 2. Purchase protection; 3. Order tracking; 4. 30-day returns.
Until now, though, the Preferred Store badge has only been shown to shoppers using the Facebook app for Android or iPhone.
However, many sellers are not convinced by this upcoming policy. Some sellers said that they did not understand Facebook's second requirement, "purchase protection," and Facebook did not provide further explanation. At the same time, requiring sellers to provide a 30-day return service is too long, and it feels like Facebook is encouraging "renting."
Some sellers are more calm and think that it doesn’t matter whether they get this badge or not. Facebook users are unlikely to pay attention to this label, just like eBay buyers rarely pay attention to “top sellers”.
Coincidentally, Etsy was also criticized by sellers on the platform when it announced the launch of the Star Seller program some time ago. When launching the program, Etsy announced that it would evaluate sellers, and if sellers meet certain requirements in terms of replying to messages, shipping, five-star ratings, sales and orders, then starting in September, these sellers will receive the "Star Seller" badge.
However, some sellers think these are too harsh, such as sellers must reply to more than 95% of buyers' messages within 24 hours, and messages from Etsy employees will not be counted in the seller's overall message response rate. One seller wrote in a comment : "Do you really want us to reply to every message within 24 hours? Don't you give me a day off?"
Some people also questioned how Etsy measures sellers’ performance when selling digital goods instead of physical goods. Etsy responded that it would make improvements in the future.
