Twitch live streaming viewership exceeds 2 billion hours in March, with the rise of “sleep streaming”

Twitch was founded in 2011 and acquired by Amazon in 2014. It is a game live streaming platform under Amazon. With the rise of the live streaming wave in recent years, Twitch has also achieved rapid growth and has taken on a new look.

Twitch live streaming viewing time exceeded 2 billion hours in March, a year-on-year increase of 105%

The latest "State of Streaming" report released by Israeli company StreamElements and its analytics partner Rainmaker.gg shows that the total viewing time of Twitch live broadcasts reached 2.06 billion hours in March this year, an increase of 105% year-on-year , breaking the platform's single-month viewing time record.

And this "achievement" has left its competitor Facebook Gaming far behind

Among the most popular game live broadcasts, Rockstar's crime simulation game "Grand Theft Auto 5" had a live viewing time of 181 million hours, followed by Riot Games' "League of Legends" (143 million hours) and Epic Games' "Fortnite" (107 million hours).

In addition to the popularity of the above-mentioned regular game live broadcasts, another interesting finding is that sleep live broadcasts on the Twitch platform also saw a significant increase in March.

Sleep live broadcasts are on the rise, and the sleep economy is booming

Data shows that in March, Twitch users watched more than 2 million hours of sleep broadcasts , and 1.5 million hours of them were all contributed to the same anchor - Ludwig , a full-time anchor living in Los Angeles.   Ahgren .

However, in fact, the sleep broadcast on the Twitch platform has formed a certain "scale", and the top ten sleep broadcasters are all professional gamers, enjoying the feeling of being watched by the audience for a long time

However, as sleep live streaming becomes popular, can the viewers who watch the hosts “soundly sleep” actually fall asleep successfully themselves?

ValuePenguin conducted a sleep survey on more than 1,000 Americans before World Sleep Day on March 19 this year. The results showed that 76% of Americans had a "lack of sleep" problem in the past month, and "lack of money" was the main cause of insomnia, followed by family or interpersonal relationship pressure caused by the epidemic.

It is worth noting that even without the epidemic, the problem of insufficient sleep among American consumers would still exist. According to a survey in 2019, the average sleep duration of American users was only 6.52 hours, of which 42% slept less than 6 hours.

Looking back at the domestic situation, a report released by the Chinese Sleep Research Society shows that the incidence of insomnia among Chinese adults is as high as 38.2%, and more than 300 million Chinese people suffer from sleep disorders . The market size of China's sleep industry will exceed 400 billion yuan by 2021 and will reach 1 trillion yuan by 2030. Therefore, there is still huge market development space for the "sleep aid" industry.

In the past, common sleep-aid products included blackout curtains, steam eye masks, sleep-aid pillows, special earplugs for sleeping , etc. Currently, there are some "black technology" sleep-aid products on the market whose real effectiveness is still unclear. Interested sellers can choose to enter a more suitable target market and category based on their own circumstances.

In addition, the rise of sleep live streaming also provides a natural advertising and marketing scenario for sellers to bring goods to their products. It would be a good choice to cooperate with "sleep anchors" on live streaming platforms such as Twitch!
