Mobile shopping rate ranks first in Europe! Can Norway become a base for the development of Nordic e-commerce?

According to the latest research by international payment giant Klarna, mobile shopping is becoming more and more popular in Europe . Norway ranks first with a mobile shopping penetration rate of 80% , followed by Spain, Sweden, and Finland, all at 77%; the Netherlands is closely behind with a penetration rate of 76%. Some European countries with large e-commerce markets rank lower in mobile shopping penetration rates: Italy (74%), the United Kingdom (70%), France (68%), and Germany (67%).

In recent years, consumers ' consumption scenarios have begun to shift to mobile devices such as smartphones. This change has been particularly evident after the 2020 epidemic. Data shows that about 71% of consumers worldwide have shopped on their mobile phones.

In Norway, the main online consumer groups are Generation Z and Millennials, who use mobile devices to meet their shopping needs. Most of the growth in mobile shopping compared to before the pandemic is driven by Generation Z and Millennials.

It is understood that the preference for shopping on mobile devices is usually associated with consumer groups that shop online more frequently . In Norway, 37% of respondents shop online on their mobile phones at least once a week , including 48% of millennials who shop on their mobile phones at least once a week.

In terms of purchase categories, the most popular among Norwegian consumers are electronic products , clothing, shoes, travel and leisure, and outdoor sports products. These major categories firmly occupy the top rankings in search volume on e-commerce platforms in Norway.

The variety and choice of goods brought by online shopping have made Norwegian consumers more concerned about the cost-effectiveness of goods. Data shows that 90% of Norwegians will compare prices when shopping online , and they will pay attention to discounts and promotions . In addition, 80% of Norwegians are more concerned about the seller's delivery speed and return service.

It is worth noting that 59% of Norwegian consumers have installed 1 to 5 shopping apps on their mobile phones, and 22% of Norwegians have installed 6 to 10 shopping apps.

Among consumers who have shopping apps installed on their phones, more than 85 % use only 1 to 5 apps per week (or none at all) , and 13% of Norwegian consumers use 6 to 10 shopping apps. However, 70 % of Norwegians prefer to shop in just one app , including Generation Z ( 80 %), Millennials ( 77 %), Generation X ( 67 %) and Baby Boomers ( 71 %).

As the world's 23rd largest e-commerce market, Norway has great development potential. It is reported that the purchase volume of Chinese cross-border e-commerce accounts for more than 30 % of Norway's total online cross-border transactions , making it one of the most popular countries for cross-border online shopping in Norway. Chinese sellers can continue to pay attention to this market and prepare for entry.
