Since the beginning of this year, sellers selling on Amazon's US site have repeatedly reported that they have received email notifications from the platform about product non-compliance, resulting in the direct removal of the products on sale. The emails also stated that they need to directly contact US third-party regulatory agencies (mostly the US Consumer Safety Commission) and provide proof of product compliance before the products can be put back on the shelves for sale.
At the same time, in July this year, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) filed a lawsuit against Amazon, hoping that the court would rule that the e-commerce giant is responsible for defective products sold on its third-party marketplace.
In addition to North America, the EU market originally scheduled to implement the product "CE" certification in July this year, but it was suddenly brought forward to June. Amazon Europe also issued a notice requiring all sellers involved in related categories on the platform to obtain "CE" certification. If products are exported to the EU without "CE" certification, it will be considered illegal.
The above information reflects that third-party regulatory agencies in various countries are increasingly strengthening their supervision of the Amazon platform and its third-party sellers. Moreover, there have been more and more cases of Chinese-made products being recalled this year.
Recently, the Guangdong Province WTO/TBT Notification Consulting Research Center released a report on the recall of consumer products exported to the United States in the third quarter of this year.
In the first three quarters of 2021, the CPSC issued a total of 173 recall notices, a year-on-year decrease of 9.4%. Among them, there were 106 products (consumer products) from China, an increase of 17.8% year-on-year, accounting for 61.3% of the total CPSC recalls, an increase of 14.2% over the same period last year, involving an amount of approximately US$5.18 billion.
Specifically in terms of categories, the most recalled items are electrical appliances /electrical equipment, followed by children's products, textiles and clothing, sports/fitness equipment, and toys, furniture and home decorations.
Therefore, sellers in related categories need to pay special attention. In the current situation where third-party regulatory agencies in various countries are conducting increasingly strict reviews, if you receive relevant notifications, please submit the information strictly in accordance with the requirements of the email. Do not take chances and ignore the relevant content of the email.
Here, the editor also reminds all sellers to learn more about the relevant certification issues of products in the local market before selecting and listing them, so as not to put non-compliant products on the shelves! After all, once product safety issues are detected by third-party regulatory agencies, it is basically difficult to escape the nightmare of being removed from the shelves or having the store closed.
