Small toys carry big risks, and multiple e-commerce platforms have urgently removed them from shelves!

Children's safety issues cannot be ignored.

Recently, consumer watchdog Which? conducted random tests on toys sold on major platforms. The test results showed that among the 28 sampled products, 12 toys posed a serious threat to children, with a failure rate of over 40%. The platforms involved included Amazon, eBay, AliExpress and Wish.

According to the survey results, among all the toys tested, 12 toys posed a serious threat to children. They all failed 50 safety tests. Among them, 10 even posed a choking hazard. Another two toys had problems with magnets or batteries.

After the test results were released, many consumer associations severely criticized these online platforms, and major platforms also took remedial measures.

AliExpress immediately removed the dangerous goods and punished sellers who violated the platform policy; Amazon also removed the substandard products and stated that it would more strictly regulate products that did not meet regulations; eBay and Wish also immediately removed these dangerous goods, and Wish even stated that it would suspend the sales qualifications of these merchants and close their stores.

It is worth noting that among all the platforms sampled this time, the quality of toys on the Wish platform is the worst. Among the 12 unqualified toys, 5 are from this platform , and eBay and AliExpress each have 3 places.

In response, the head of consumer protection policy said: These dangerous toys that do not meet safety standards are sold without inspection, which may pose serious safety risks to children.

Unfortunately, up to now, online markets have almost no legal constraints in ensuring the safety of products sold on their platforms. These platforms believe that they merely act as intermediaries between buyers and sellers and do not need to take any responsibility, which has resulted in a mixed bag of products sold on the market. Therefore, strong legal means are urgently needed to constrain the online market.

In fact, the US government has also made some efforts to improve the security of online markets. For example, as early as August last year, the US Fourth District Court of Appeal in California ruled that if a third-party merchant sells defective products on its platform and causes any harm, the platform should be held responsible.

Currently, many online platforms, including Amazon, are facing more and more legal disputes, which forces these platforms to take more responsibility for the products sold on their platforms. I believe that the products listed by sellers will be more strictly supervised at that time. Sellers are requested to ensure that their products comply with the platform's safety policies and not to take chances.
