In recent years, the development speed of DIY home products in the UK has far exceeded that of other sectors, and market competition is also quite fierce.
Currently, European home furnishing giant Kingfisher ranks first in the UK DIY home furnishing retail market , followed closely by Amazon.
But according to the latest research data from market research firm Edge by Ascential , Amazon is expected to become the largest DIY home retailer in the UK by 2026 .
Data shows that in 2021, Amazon's DIY home category GMV sales was 4.4 billion pounds , while Kingfisher 's was 4.7 billion pounds , and the market gap is gradually narrowing .
According to EdgebyAscential, Amazon's DIY home category sales will reach 8.5 billion pounds in 2026 , surpassing Kingfisher to become the market leader. The GMV sales of other home giants B&Q and Screwfix's parent company are predicted to be 5.4 billion pounds.
DIY home furnishings have always been a hot-selling category in the UK, especially after the outbreak of the epidemic. Staying at home for a long time has led more and more British people to start doing some simple tasks to improve their living environment, such as painting walls, decorating, replacing floors, and renovating gardens.
Survey data shows that in the first quarter of this year, the ranking of home improvement keywords in the UK maintained an upward trend compared with the same period last year . Consumers' interest in DIY continued to increase , and the search volume of home products in multiple categories continued to rise during this period.
Among them, the search volume for "peelable and sticky wallpaper" increased by more than 250%.
Looking at search rankings, the average ranking for “cordless drill” has increased by 95%. The search ranking for “garden solar light” has also continued to rise.
The long-term home stay caused by the epidemic has also made the British people start to consider changing their living environment.
eBay Ads UK surveyed Brits who were planning to move in the next six months, and the results showed that more than half (56%) believed that the savings they made during the pandemic would enable them to move faster or move to a bigger place than before the pandemic. This means that not only are there more movers, they are also likely to look for a bigger house and buy more home products.
39 % of respondents said they would rather renovate a property than buy one that is already renovated. More than a third of them listed DIY equipment as one of the first things they would invest in when they move in, and nearly 19 % would prioritize second-hand, refurbished or upcycled items. This has also driven sales of DIY home products to a certain extent .
It is expected that DIY home products will continue to be popular in the UK market this year and competition will be quite fierce. If novice sellers want to make a small profit, they need to keep an eye on the situation and make plans in advance. DIY Home UK e-commerce market |
