In Europe and the United States, children's products are strictly reviewed and can easily tip over. Recently, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued an announcement stating that the furniture company Canyon has recalled about 1,200 children's chests of drawers due to a serious risk of tipping over.
The report said that this children's five-drawer chest did not meet the stability performance standards set by the industry. This standard clearly stipulates that when a 50-pound weight is hung on another open drawer with the other four drawers closed , the entire children's chest of drawers should remain upright, but the recalled product has a serious risk of tipping over, which may cause death or injury to children, so it is recalled.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties from the five-drawer chests sold for children, but the incident still attracted the attention of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission , which has to regulate thousands of household items to protect consumer safety.
It is reported that this recall has many similarities with several furniture recalls that have occurred in the past two years. For example, they all occurred after stability testing by Consumer Reports and the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The evaluation report provided by the Consumer Reports platform shows that many dressing tables sold on the market have not passed basic stability performance tests . The CPSC also stated that many drawer cabinet products do not meet the stability performance standards set by the industry.
However, the safety of children's furniture cannot be ignored. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, on average, a child is sent to the emergency room every 60 minutes due to furniture tipping accidents, and at least 218 children died from children's furniture tipping from 2000 to 2019.
Recently, in order to ensure that tragic events do not occur, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a federal legislation called "Prohibiting Unstable Dressers from Endangering Children's Safety " with bipartisan support, which is currently awaiting a vote in the Senate. In addition, several well-known platforms such as Amazon, Room & Board , and Pottery Barn have expressed support for this legislation .
As of press time, the editor searched for "children's Dresser" on the front desk of Amazon US and found that many merchants were selling such items. Therefore, he would like to remind relevant merchants to test whether their products meet basic stability standards in advance to avoid the risk of recall of their own products when the legislation officially takes effect.

The recalled products are mainly in two styles: charcoal (SKU number 34595035) and maroon (SKU number 34495045) . The sales period was concentrated from April 2020 to March 2021, and the price was about US$430.
