Ocean freight prices are skyrocketing, freight forwarding quotes are bizarre, why is there so much chaos in cross-border logistics?

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step .” If you want to do well in cross-border e-commerce, online stores are one big part, and logistics is another. While Amazon’s big sellers are constantly being blocked, freight forwarders are not immune and frequently encounter problems.

At the beginning of this year, the logistics prices were not as terrible as they are now. But according to the editor's interview, the price of containers shipped from China to the United States has skyrocketed to US$12,000/FEU, US$13,000/FEU, and US$16,000/FEU. Depending on the destination and the influence of weather and policies, the logistics prices have become unstable and gradually rising .

In the final analysis, the reasons for the continuous surge in logistics prices are as follows:

1. Demand surges . At this stage, the consumption desire of residents in various countries is constantly increasing due to the increase in consumption power and the impact of the epidemic. Many sellers see this market and enter the field of cross-border e-commerce, which increases the burden on the freight forwarding industry.

2. Resource shortage . Due to the blockage of the Suez Canal at the beginning of the year and the impact of the epidemic on shipments at ports in southern China, the on-time rate of freight forwarding ships has dropped sharply, leading to an increase in transportation costs.

3. Policy restrictions . From the perspective of exporting countries, some military exercises in China may affect the delay of freight forwarding ships. The following is some information on military exercises issued by China's Maritime Safety Administration.

As for the stopover ports and importing countries, the increased waiting time for ships to call at stopover ports, the continuous congestion at the ports of importing countries and the increase in port entry fees will all lead to a continuous increase in transportation costs.

4. Industry fluctuations . Due to the shortage of resources in the freight forwarding industry, the lack of containers and space has become a common phenomenon. Many people have flocked into the freight forwarding field, and "scalpers" have proliferated. Obtaining stable freight forwarding resources through scalpers has become an inevitable part of the shipping process, increasing freight forwarding expenses.

Here, the editor reminds all merchants to book space in advance , arrange shipments reasonably , and take psychological precautions . After all, it is approaching the peak season, and this difficult battle has just begun.
