On June 28, Amazon Global Selling announced today that Amazon Japan has launched a limited-time subsidy promotion for warehouse shipping costs for new cross-border sellers. Qualified sellers can receive a warehouse shipping subsidy of up to 33,000 yen (about 300 US dollars).

 

Freight to Northern Europe breaks through $20,000 mark

 

Short-term freight rates from China to Northern Europe have broken through the $20,000 per 40-foot mark, while carriers are offering as much as $25,000 for transpacific freight to the U.S. West Coast. Last week, it was reported that offers from Shanghai to Los Angeles were as high as $32,000.

 

Relevant foreign data show that in July, for cargoes from Chinese ports to Felixstowe and Southampton, the top five shipping companies quoted prices of $21,000 per 40 feet, with an average price of around $18,000.

 

Amazon Canada to impose taxes on July 1

 

It is reported that Amazon's US and European sites have announced that Amazon will collect Canadian Goods and Services Tax/Harmonized Sales Tax (GST/HST) and Saskatchewan Sales Tax (PST) from Canadian sellers starting July 1, 2021. The remote services provided by Amazon include fees for selling on Amazon (listing/recommendation services), advertising fees, and subscription fees.

 

Note: Amazon has previously collected taxes from sellers in parts of Canada. As shown in the above picture, Quebec sales tax and /or British Columbia PST are on the list. To ensure correct tax collection, sellers must update the address and tax details of their accounts.

 

India's e-commerce sales to grow 27% to $66.76 billion in 2021

 

The epidemic has driven the booming development of e-commerce in India. In 2020, India's e-commerce sales increased by 30.0% year-on-year. With the strong second wave of the epidemic in India, eMarketer expects India to become one of the fastest growing e-commerce markets in the world this year, and it is expected that India's e-commerce sales will increase by 27% in 2021, which is an increase from the previous estimate of 22%. According to Yonhap News Agency, the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently released the results of a survey on changes in consumer behavior in the COVID-19 era. The results showed that 78.4% of respondents said that online shopping spending increased after the COVID-19 pandemic. The category with the largest increase in online shopping frequency was food, followed by dining out and takeout, kitchen and daily necessities (30%), and fashion and clothing. The reasons for the increase in online shopping include convenient delivery (58%), fear of infection and avoiding going out, and low prices.
