Trampolines sold on Amazon "have problems" and nearly 1,500 units have been urgently recalled

It is reported that nearly 1,500 trampolines sold on Amazon Canada were urgently recalled on June 15 due to quality issues after receiving multiple reports of injuries.

According to Canadian news, 1,464 trampolines were sold from July 2020 to June 2021, with five reports of trampoline breakage and two injuries. The cause is the design of the weld joints at the trampoline joints, which are prone to breakage and cause the risk of falling.

This trampoline is a 55-inch children's trampoline with a safety net and protective pads, the color is green, and the Amazon ASIN number is B085VM6W27.

After receiving the news, the Canadian Ministry of Health issued a warning: "Consumers should immediately keep children away from the trampoline and contact their local city government for instructions on how to dispose of the product." Amazon has now contacted all affected Canadian customers, urgently recalled the product and made corresponding refunds.

The pandemic has reduced outdoor activities, and indoor entertainment facilities have become the first choice for home use. As early as the beginning of the pandemic, the sales of trampolines on Amazon continued to rise. Under this favorable trend, many new sellers began to join in, ready to share a piece of the pie. Especially in the hot summer, adding a small nozzle accessory can upgrade the trampoline at home to a cool version. Last year, sales ushered in a small peak.

However, while sellers see the sales boom, they cannot ignore safety issues, especially for products aimed at infants and young children, which should be handled with caution.

As early as two years ago, a domestically produced trampoline was recalled due to safety issues. The trampoline was a mini folding type, and if it was not unfolded or folded correctly, the user might be hit by the frame.

In response to many safety hazards, Amazon recently began to conduct strict inspections on trampolines. Any product without an ASTM F381-16 test report will face penalties such as being removed from the shelves. The packaging and warning labels of trampolines must comply with Amazon's requirements, and the pictures should be consistent with those submitted in the report. However, this requirement does not apply to commercial trampolines and mechanical trampolines, nor does it apply to fitness trampolines for children under six years old.
