eBay UK clothing sales surge, second-hand market remains hot

According to foreign media reports, as the vaccination program progresses, more and more British people are returning to the workplace, and clothing sales continue to rise. In particular, the hot second-hand clothing resale market has driven the growth of the entire clothing category. In addition, social travel products have also seen a significant increase.

According to the latest statistics provided by eBay UK, sales of men's summer suits increased by 108% year-on-year, bridesmaid dresses increased by 78% year-on-year, and wedding dresses increased by 59% year-on-year. The report pointed out that the hot sales of wedding products are due to the one-year ban, which has caused thousands of wedding plans to be shelved indefinitely.

In addition, the sales of suitcases have also increased by 140% since January this year . eBay said that from daily necessities to travel goods to luxury goods, the British have shown a strong desire to consume after the lockdown, and many people have started revenge consumption.

The data also shows that electronic games remain one of the most popular entertainment pastimes, both before and after the epidemic, but based on the current situation, game consoles will be in short supply for some time.

It is worth noting that during the epidemic, the second-hand market in the UK continued to be hot. eBay data showed that in 2021, an average of 5 second-hand items were sold every second. Relevant experts pointed out that the reason for the rapid development of the second-hand market in the UK is that many Generation Z shoppers have turned to e-commerce for various reasons . They have distinct personalities and their own unique consumption awareness. Many people will choose to invest in second-hand vintage products.

Among them, the most popular second-hand category is clothing. The survey shows that more than a third (35%) of British shoppers have purchased second-hand clothing. In addition, second-hand electronic products are also a popular resale category. The survey pointed out that nearly a third (27%) of British people sold their electronic devices during the epidemic.

The report pointed out that although the demand for sanitary protection products has not disappeared, the shopping trends revealed in the report show that the epidemic has improved a lot, the consumption environment will continue to be optimistic, and many British people are eager to go out and make up for lost social time. Among the Generation Z population, a quarter (25 % ) of British people said they wanted to buy eye-catching dresses for clubs and bars.
