43% of Brits strongly regret using Amazon

According to foreign media reports, digital experience expert Sitecore conducted a questionnaire survey on the use of Amazon for 2,235 British people . The research showed that nearly a third ( 32%) of British shoppers said that they felt guilty every time they shopped on Amazon, and 43% of them said that they would feel very guilty and planned to reduce their shopping on the platform.

The survey also showed that British shoppers aged 20-40 were most likely to feel "guilty" because they believed that Amazon did not clearly assume social responsibility and did not make clear environmental goals, and therefore tended to choose more responsible smaller platforms for shopping.

For millennials , 44% of respondents said they were uncomfortable shopping on Amazon , but they are still Amazon's largest customer group. 46% of millennials shop on Amazon every week, and 73% also subscribe to Amazon Prime.

While 42% of Generation Z ( those under 22) also said they would feel guilty about shopping on Amazon, only 18% of those aged 55 to 75 said so .

Sitecore spokesperson Paige O'Neill said : "Today's consumers, especially the younger generations, want to contribute to society by supporting local businesses and are increasingly choosing brands that contribute to society. These results suggest that the British population may be experiencing Amazon fatigue."

As for the reasons for guilt, almost all respondents mentioned that they believed Amazon did not contribute to taxes and the environment, and suspected that Amazon's working methods were unfair. In addition, most British people said that they have not completely abandoned the platform yet, and the main reason is Amazon's extremely fast delivery speed.

According to foreign media reports last week, Amazon's turnover in Europe in 2020 was as high as 45 billion euros, most of which came from the UK and Germany, but Amazon transferred the receipts to the tax haven Luxembourg to avoid paying huge taxes. This caused an uproar at the time, leading to a huge change in the British people's attitude towards Amazon.
